1. Poor in front of goal
Wolves really missed Larsen’s finishing and Bellegarde’s presence today. In the first half, we created a few good chances—opportunities that probably would’ve been converted if both had started. Saying that though Bellegarde was introduced in the second half and was poor, played so deep at times and didn’t offer that usual pace spoken about. So a very different mindset from first half to second!
2. Guedes quality
Simply not good enough for us, really, really bad performance and it was incredibly frustrating to watch. He offered little to nothing on and off the ball and it looked like the Guedes we’ve seen of recent years.
3. Vitor’s decisive actions
Was really refreshing to see Vitor make 4 changes early on in the second half and they instantly got the crowd roaring, Matheus Cunha being substituted saw the game improve in Wolves favour and we seemed to play a lot better without him. Also substituting Joao Gomes who didn’t seem to be up to pace today. Proper on the beach type vibe to today’s fixture and it was frustrating.
4. Larsen impact
Fans called for him from the bench and, as soon as he came on, he lifted the crowd. Molineux erupted, and the team finally had the energy and presence up front that was missing in the first half. He made an impact in his first 10 minutes, bringing a sharper edge to the attack. But like the rest, he struggled for service because of the team’s poor offensive display.
5. Matheus Cunha
As mentioned, the team improved after Cunha was substituted. While both Cunha and Strand Larsen are strong individually, they don’t combine well as a duo. Larsen has a bigger impact when he plays without Cunha, since Cunha tends to take the lead and the play is focused through him—this doesn’t suit Larsen’s strengths.
Cunha’s mistake that led to the penalty was costly and frustrating. He shouldn’t have been that deep on the pitch, and his error disappointed the Wolves fans. Substituting him before the hour mark was the right choice.
