Is Matt Hobbs Set to Leave Wolves? Rumoured Changes Ahead for Club Management

It seems likely that Matt Hobbs will leave his role as sporting director at Wolves

According to reports from Sky journalist Johnny Phillips, Wolves are set for a summer of change, and one of the biggest stories is the departure of sporting director Matt Hobbs. This move marks a key part of a larger management shake-up at the club. As Wolves gear up for an important transfer window, it is rumoured that Hobbs will no longer lead their recruitment. The role of sporting director is set to be dissolved, reflecting a significant change in how the club will operate.

Head coach Vitor Pereira will have a stronger hand in transfers going forward. The club plans to make better use of Pereira’s connections, especially through the Portuguese football agency Gestifute. This will likely shape who joins the squad this summer. Wolves aim to make smart new signings with funds raised from player sales, such as those of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri.

While some fans may worry about what these changes mean, the club’s owners, Fosun, reportedly remain committed to strengthening the squad. Jeff Shi, the chairman, wants to capitalise on the work of Pereira and push the club in a new direction. Central to this plan will be Gestifute’s Valdir Cardoso, who will help boost the Wolves line-up and try to lift the club from a season of struggle.

In this new setup, Matt Jackson will step up. His job as head of professional football development will now include managing the negotiations for incoming and outgoing players. The sporting director role will transform into a head of recruitment position, but it is unclear if Hobbs will fill that spot.

Hobbs follows in the footsteps of other recent sporting directors who saw big changes arrive. While he was working on several deals, Jackson will now take over this important work. The real test for Wolves will be in the quality of players they bring in, and how these moves shape their future in the Premier League.

What’s clear is that a new chapter is starting at Wolves as they rebuild their vision both on and off the pitch.
