KARL WHITEHOUSE GIVES HIS MATCH REPORT ON WOLVES 2-1 PRESTON

Wolves made 6 changes from the Premier League Game against Tottenham coming into the side was Sarkic, Semedo, Dendoncker, Traore, Jimenez, Hwang and out went Sa, Jonny, Neto, Neves, Guedes and Podence.

FIRST HALF

Wolves kicked off the game starting brightly from the off with Raul having a shot in the second minute with his right foot from outside the box which was comfortably saved by the Preston goalkeeper, Cornell.

But it was in the 8th minute that Wolves took the lead with a lovely cross from Aït-Nouri. Raul tapped in with his right foot to score from close range and Wolves lead 1-0 in the first half.

With 29 minutes on the clock Wolves started another counter attack. Semedo on the wing passed the ball to Traore who hit a left footed shot from centre of the box to the top left corner of the net to make it 2-0 to Wolves.

Just before half time Wolves were in again in the Preston box when Olosunde fouled Hwang in the box to concede a penalty. Raul our regular penalty taker gave the ball to Hwang but he scuffed the shot and it it was saved by Cornell.  Bruno Lage was visibly unhappy from the sidelines.

Half Time Wolves lead Preston 2-0 and it was well deserved, however they have should been out of sight with a 3rd goal. Wolves were dominant in the first half and I was happy with a strong performance but hoping the penalty miss didn’t prove costly. My rating for the first half is 7/10 and I’’m hoping for more good football in the second half.

SECOND HALF

Wolves didn’t get off to a great start in the second half with Preston starting like they mean business. In the 48th Minute Preston scored and Wolves defence should have done better. The goal scorer was Woodburn, striking from outside the box to the bottom right corner, with an assist from McCann

The Preston goal had appeared to kick Wolves back into life but Kilman couldn’t capitalise on Ait-Nouri’s corner which was parried away from the Preston goalkeeper.  Nunes also had a shot which was deflected wide both these happened within a minute of each other in the 54th and 55th minute of the game.

Shortly after Wolves were attacking again with Nathan Collins shooting from close range but he headed the ball over the crossbar missing the opportunity to make the game safe.

After a flurry of substitutes by both sides Potts of Preston had a great chance to get the equaliser in the 81st minute,  a cross from Parrott crossed the goal to the right side of the 6 yard box only for him to  hit the side netting.

In the dying minutes of injury time Pedro Neto had a shot from the left side of the box having been setup by Guedes but it was comfortably saved by goalkeeper diving to his bottom right corner.

FULL-TIME WOLVES 2-1 PRESTON

Second half performance was not as good as the first half just having 2 shots on target. Wolves should have got the 3rd goal to make it safe. Preston were the better team in second half but Wolves need to be a 90mins team not a 45mins team. I would have liked to have seen more goals looking at the number of shots we produced but at least we have scored 2 tonight and Bruno has got his first victory of the season.

My rating for the second half was 6/10 and player of the match Matheus Nunes who showed exactly what he can do for wolves and looks like he’s going to be a brilliant player.
