Nick Parkes rates Wolves performance against Ipswich at Portman Road
Jose Sa – 6
A fairly quiet day for the Wolves number 1 but constant poor distribution. Couldn’t have done much to stop Delap’s goal.
Nelson Semedo – 6
Considering the amount of things that happened in the game, the captain had a rather uneventful game. Didn’t really put a foot wrong but wasn’t a threat in attack either.
Matt Doherty – 6.5
Composed and did all the simple things well. Pushed on more in the second half and had a neat 1-2 with Larsen but his shot went wide. A steady but good game from Doc.
Emmanuel Agbadou – 8
What a signing he has been, another dominant performance against a very dangerous Delap. Bullied the Ipswich striker and won almost everything.
Toti Gomes- 7
An eventful day for the centre back. Linked up well with Ait-Nouri and looked to push the ball forward. Should have had at least one goal early on and a golden chance with a header which he headed down into the ground instead of on target. Maybe should have tracked Delap a little better for the goal but made a crucial 1 on 1 tackle on the hour mark.
Rayan Ait-Nouri – 7
An air of confidence to his performance today, looked dangerous going forward but was out-jumped too easily for the goal. Had a great chance on the hour mark but couldn’t direct his effort on goal. A bag of tricks but needed to do better in defence.
Andre – 8
A copy and paste job needed. A truly dominant player with the bit between his teeth. Won almost everything and his ability to read the play was incredible. A great player to watch.
Joao Gomes – 8.5 – Man of the Match
One of the most complete performances I’ve seen for a while. Run himself into the ground and the intelligence and calmness he showed with the ball in such a crucial game speaks magnitudes of how good this player is. Incredible when winning the ball back, made the right decisions with it, and also looked a real threat going forward and was unlucky to hit the post with a long-distance shot. So glad they locked him down with a new contract. A Wolves legend in the making.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 6.5
A fighting performance from the in-form player. Didn’t give Ipswich a second’s rest and only the softness of the ref stopped him winning the ball back countless times. Didn’t influence much in attack but another good performance.
Marshall Munetsi – 6.5
Similar to Bellegarde, not much went his way up top but his effort and fight must be admired, even in the last minutes he was hunting Ipswich down to win the ball back. This attitude is exactly why Wolves are now in the position we are! Passion and 110% commitment to the team.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 8
Frustrating in the first half with the ball not sticking but his effort early on was well saved. Crucial involvements in the second. Did excellently to pluck the ball out of the air and then find Sarabia for the first goal and then in the right place to continue his hot scoring streak. A man in fine form and long may it continue.
Pablo Sarabia – 8
What a cameo from the Spaniard. Showed his quality with a neat low finish into the corner for our equaliser and then a beautiful first-time cross to assist Larsen for the second and game-winning goal. A contribution which almost ensures our survival and if he does leave in the summer he will be remembered fondly for this game.
Rodrigo Gomes – 7
Great to see him back on the pitch, Similar to others, he embodies what it means to be a Wolves player. Gives 100% every time he puts the shirt on. Caused Ipswich lots of issues when he came on. Direct runs and great crosses in.
Santiago Bueno – 6
Came on late to shut up shop and did what was required of him.
Nasser Djiga – 6
Same as Bueno, came on to ensure the 3 points and that’s exactly what happened.
