ANDREW BENNETT SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON PLAYER PERFORMANCE IN WOLVES 4-0 LOSS TO MAN CITY

Jose Sa – 5

Couldn’t do anything about the first, second or third goals and did look composed for set plays. The Wolves keeper got a hand to Haaland’s second and City’s third and should have kept it out at a crucial time in the game when Wolves were showing some signs of life after the half time break.

Ki-Jana Hoever (off 73) – 4

Defensively didn’t look too out of place and stopped Doku on multiple occasions; that said with the ball a simply horrific performance. Against City you need to maximize the use of the ball especially in the final third, at least four times during the first half alone Hoever put in a cross which was nowhere near any Wolves player. One moment during the second half Hoever got the ball in the center of the pitch only to totally miss any Wolves player being out of position and giving the ball away.

Matt Doherty  – 5

Potentially a harsh criticism but should have been in front of Haaland for the first goal, otherwise defensively did okay but in any side that concedes 4 as a center back not too great. The Irishman arguably put the best cross of the game in for Wolves where Munetsi headed home only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside.

EMMANUEL Agbadou – 3

Agbadou continues his pre-season form of sloppy passing, one to lead to City’s second goal. He seems half the player of last season with mistakes in decision making and half a yard off it defensively, totally gets lost as City score their fourth.

Toti – 6

Can’t think of much Toti did wrong, a shame his first outing as Captain ended in a 4-0 defeat. The best of a bad bunch defensively, didn’t do much of note.

David Moller Wolfe (off 73) – 4

Went missing as CIty opened the scoring allowing Rico Lewis in behind, offered nearly nothing going forwards, seemed defensively strong and going forward needs to cut out mistakes.

Andre (off 73) – 6

A classic Andre performance but unfortunately this City side had too much. Didn’t do much wrong in his performance.

JOAO Gomes – 5

Absolutely everywhere but on a few occasions misplaced passes as Wolves tried to break on City, had a great chance in the first half but opted to take a touch instead of a first time effort.

Jean Ricner Bellegarde (off 73) – 6

When on the ball, the brightest forward thinking player put in a couple of nice balls for Larsen and always looked to get forward when on the ball. As Wolves lacked in the final third didn’t get too much into the action.

Marshall Munetsi – 6

Ran his socks off and was really involved alongside Larsen in a high press throughout the first half, scored a good header which was correctly ruled out for offside. If he is to play in a front three he has to stay onside especially against top teams, being caught offside three plus times in one half is very poor.

Jorgen Strand Larsen (off 82) – 6

Pressed well and had a couple of half chances which were blocked or saved by the City Keeper. For the most part fighting off scraps, needs players to get higher up and assist him, did a good job flicking the ball on when we played long but a lack of runners meant many times this led to nothing.

The Subs:

HUGO Bueno (on 73) – 6

The most active of the subs, put in a couple of very dangerous crosses but defensively was caught out.

RODRIGO  Gomes (on 73) – 6

Very lively when he got into the final third but he didn’t manage to find any opportunities.

Jhon Arias (on 73) – 5

The sub who came on in the 73rd minute and had the fewest touches, was not involved for Wolves.

Fer Lopez (on 73) – 5

Didn’t particularly manage to get involved in the game, had a few nice touches but didn’t create any opportunity.

Hwang (on 82)

Did nothing of note in his short time on the pitch.

I think this applies to almost all of the Wolves players on the pitch today, we did have some nice moments, but in the end the scoreline is all that matters and nice touches here and there don’t create opportunities.

Man of the match

The man of the match is the memories of Diogo Jota. The people of the day are the team from Old Gold Pack who were leaders in putting together the Tifo and pre-match tribute for our hero Diogo Jota. Forever in our hearts Diogo 18!

Unless and until Fosun and the incompetent Jeff Shi ride out of the city Wolves will be perennial cannon fodder for any PL team with quality and ambition. A far cry from the heady days of 2017 – 2020 under Nuno. I could almost cry at what Fosun have done to us since.
