PLAYER RATINGS: WOLVES V NEWCASTLE

Johnstone – 6.5

Had a good game today, distribution was good in the first half and most of the second. Had a few shaky moments on the ball when Gordon pressed him. Made some good saves in the second half as well.

Semedo – 6

Was consistent most of the game, got forward well at times and kept Gordon at bay apart from an instance where he cut inside and ghosted past him and Mosquera.

Mosquera – 6.5 

Mosquera has been consistently good so far this season, he’s physical and confident on the ball  A type or defender we have needed for a while. A true Rolls Royce defender. Looks to have a good partnership with Dawson at the moment.

Dawson – 6.5

Another decent game for Daws today, Assured on the ball and did well to subdue Isak in the first half. He was unlucky with the shot that deflected off his head but apart from that he didn’t put a foot wrong again.

RAYAN Ait Nouri – 6.5

I thought RAN had a good game today, defended very well in the first half and attacked well down the left hand side with Bellegarde. Didn’t have the same impact in the second half due to Newcastle pushing forward a lot more. RAN showing that he might actually be a able play as a fullback in this system.

Andre – 7.5 MAN OF THE MATCH

An excellent addition to our midfield, he looks so confident on the ball and some of the turns he  made to get out of trouble was fantastic. His defensive side of the game was excellent too, battling to win the ball and constantly being physical with Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton. Everything started to fall apart when he came off the pitch.

JOAO Gomes – 6.5

Joao had a decent game did everything he needed to do well, a typical Gomes performance, great tackling and simple passing. A wonderful dummy for the Lemina goal.

Lemina ⚽️– 7 

A good performance from Lemina today, constantly running box to box to help out offensively and defensively and a well taken goal after a wonderful piece of team play. Always a very consistent player for us.

Bellegarde – 6.5

Bellegarde had a good game today was a threat down the left side in both half’s. If we can get the ball to his feet so he can drive at defenders he is a dangerous player. He also did well to help Ait Nouri defensively.

Cunha – 6.5 

Another decent performance from Cunha, he was unlucky not to score late on as pope denied him with a great save. He had a couple of runs with the ball which he is so good at, he’s definitely a player that is key to how this system will work.

Larson 🅰️– 7 

Larson was good today. He is the striker we have been looking out for but he needs more service.  He won a lot of headers today against quite a tall Newcastle defence, his play for the goal was excellent and he was unlucky to hit the post and be denied by Pope. We have a proper 9 on our hands but we must provide him with the chances to score. 

Subs:

Hwang – 3

Offered nothing in attack today, I didn’t really notice that he was on the pitch for 10 minutes. I don’t understand why Rodrigo Gomes wasn’t brought on instead when Trippier was playing right back, we needed a bit of pace down that side.

Doherty – 3 

Doc was poor today defensively, as soon as he came on he let Barnes drift inside and score an absolute screamer. Surely with his experience you would think he would know Barnes was going to do that. I feel that Doc is lazy when he comes on, like playing for Wolves is a chore to him.

Doyle – 5

Tommy had a decent  15 minutes, always confident on the ball and trying to find a forward pass at every opportunity. I would love to see him start more games but it is hard to drop one of Andre, Lemina or Gomes.

Carlos Forbs – 4 

A good little cameo from Forbs today, he looks quick and energetic. Perhaps  should’ve come on earlier but I’m excited to see what he can do in a Wolves shirt.

Guedes – 4 

Guedes did ok  when he came on, he made a couple of runs in  behind and he did  the simple things right.
