Premier League Week 16 predictions with Always Wolves, dark humour, match picks, Match Bingo tips and brutal chat on Wolves' nightmare season.
Wolves fans, if you feel like this season has aged you about ten years, you are not alone. After 15 games, 0 wins and 2 points, the mood around Molineux is a mix of dark humour, disbelief and stubborn loyalty. So Dave and Emma are back with their Premier League Week 16 predictions, a look back at recent scores in their prediction battle, some Wolves therapy, and a bit of Match Bingo fun to take the edge off.
Wolves’ nightmare season so far
The numbers are brutal. Fifteen games played, no wins, just two points on the board. As Dave put it, a triangle, a samosa, Doritos, even a coat hanger all have more points than Wolves right now. Viewers were invited to drop their best three‑pointed objects in the comments. Gallows humour is doing a lot of heavy lifting this season.
The winless run stretches way back. Wolves have not won a Premier League game since 26 April, which makes it 19 league games without a win, basically half a season of misery. There have been midweek fixtures on top of weekend defeats, so fans barely get time to breathe before the next disappointment rolls round.
There was at least a goal to shout about recently. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde scored against Manchester United, only to go off injured a few minutes into the second half. He had probably been Wolves’ best player over the previous couple of games, which says a lot about the level of everyone else.
Emma’s view was blunt. She does not think Bellegarde has kicked on that much from last season, he just looks better because the rest of the side has dropped so far below their usual standards. When the players around you decline, an average performance can suddenly appear excellent.
Fer Lopez, came on and did all right on the ball, but struggled defensively. In truth, it does not seem to matter who plays, Wolves are struggling at the back regardless. The alarming high line against Manchester United was punished over and over again in a 4‑1 defeat, and the defending across recent games has looked soft and disorganised.
The lowlights at this point look something like:
- Heavy 4‑1 defeat to Manchester United, with a risky high line that kept getting punished
- Eight defeats in a row in the league
- Nineteen games without a Premier League win
- Two lonely points on the board and confidence on the floor
- A general feeling of humiliation and embarrassment, to the point where fans of other clubs are being asked to send their love
Emma is clear it is not all on the manager. She does not think Rob Edwards should be sacked, and feels the club have to stick with him, whatever happens. The bigger worry is what January looks like if Wolves are cut adrift. Do you gamble big wages on what could be an impossible task, or quietly start preparing for life in the Championship?
She is that pessimistic she thinks Wolves could end the season on the same two points they already have. Dave thinks current form might scrape them up to about five points, which still puts Derby County’s infamous season in danger of being beaten for the worst Premier League record ever.
Even the FA Cup does not offer much comfort. With Shrewsbury at home in the draw, Emma still is not convinced Wolves will win. Dave jokes they have not got it in them to win an egg cup, let alone the FA Cup.
Catching up: prediction results
Before getting stuck into Week 16, Dave and Emma went back over the recent results to see who was on top in their head‑to‑head battle.
Week 16 fixture predictions
Chelsea vs Everton
Emma admits she is torn on this one. Everton have done well after their early troubles, but she sees them as stronger at home than away.
- Emma’s pick: Chelsea 2–1 Everton
- Dave’s pick: Chelsea 2–1 Everton
Dave “concurs”, and insists he is not copying, even though their scores match perfectly.
Liverpool vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Neither of them are convinced by Liverpool at the moment, and Brighton are always capable of causing problems.
- Emma’s pick: 1–1 draw
- Dave’s pick: 1–1 draw
They both go for the draw. Emma points out this season feels too unpredictable to trust previous patterns.
Burnley vs Fulham
Here is where it gets spooky. For the third match in a row, they land on the same outcome.
- Emma’s pick: Burnley 0–1 Fulham
- Dave’s pick: Burnley 0–1 Fulham
Both have gone for a tight away win, with just the one goal in it. They cannot remember ever having their first three predictions identical before.
Arsenal vs Wolves
This is the painful one.
Before revealing anything, they mention hearing some predictions as wild as 10–0 to Arsenal. No one is expecting Wolves to get anything from the game.
Emma eventually pins her colours to the mast:
- Emma’s pick: Arsenal 3–0 Wolves
She thinks Wolves will put in a better display than they did against Manchester United, because it surely cannot be that bad again, but still cannot see anything other than a comfortable Arsenal win.
Dave has written down a score that makes Emma burst out laughing when she sees it. He keeps his exact number back for his separate match preview, but he makes it clear he expects another defeat and jokes at the end about “how many Wolves have lost by against the Gunners”.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester City
Emma fancies Palace to get something at home and thinks City have looked a little bit off it at times.
- Emma’s pick: 1–1 draw
- Dave’s pick: Crystal Palace 1–2 Manchester City
Dave is backing the champions to edge it. He points out that Arsenal have slipped up recently, there are only a couple of points between them, Aston Villa and City, and expects City to have the bit between their teeth.
Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham Hotspur
Emma’s sheet is full of 1–1s at this point, and this is another.
- Emma’s pick: Nottingham Forest 1–1 Tottenham
- Dave’s pick: Nottingham Forest 1–2 Tottenham
She thinks Forest’s home form can cause Spurs problems and sees them getting something from the game. Dave gives Spurs the extra goal and another away win.
Sunderland vs Newcastle United
A big derby, which they are both gutted to be missing.
- Emma’s pick: Sunderland 1–1 Newcastle
- Dave’s pick: Sunderland 2–1 Newcastle
Emma sticks with yet another draw. Dave goes all in on the Black Cats, saying he can see Sunderland nicking it given the way Newcastle are going.
West Ham United vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa are flying, even if Emma felt they did not look that great against Wolves. Maybe that was Wolves being better than they thought for once.
- Emma’s pick: West Ham 1–2 Aston Villa
- Dave’s pick: West Ham 0–2 Aston Villa
Both expect a Villa win. Dave gives West Ham no goals at all.
Brentford vs Leeds United
This one divides them again.
- Emma’s pick: Brentford 2–1 Leeds
- Dave’s pick: Brentford 1–1 Leeds
Emma trusts Brentford’s shape and organisation at home. Dave is impressed by the fight and character Leeds are showing, especially compared with Wolves. He sees them getting a point.
Manchester United vs Bournemouth
Fresh from watching their own side lose 4–1 at Old Trafford, they both agree United were not actually that good.
Emma says United looked “pretty rubbish” and it was Wolves who were dreadful. That shapes her prediction.
- Emma’s pick: Manchester United 2–2 Bournemouth
- Dave’s pick: Manchester United 2–1 Bournemouth
He thinks United will still find a way to edge it, even if they do not look convincing, Emma reckons the Cherries can grab a point.
Merch, socials and final thoughts
Even in the worst seasons, the content rolls on.
Dave and Emma have new Always Wolves Christmas mugs out, with classic old kits printed around the side and the Always Wolves logo on the back, plus Christmassy t‑shirts and jumpers on the store. Perfect for anyone who wants to drink their tea out of something nicer than the league table.
They will be back next week to see how those Premier League Week 16 predictions held up, whether Emma can close the gap on Dave, and, most importantly, how many goals Wolves have shipped against Arsenal.
