Darlaston Town (1874) FC has strengthened its squad and continued its collaboration with Wolves, Louie Lefevre brings you all the details

Darlaston Town (1874) FC have continued to work with Wolves in the development of several youth players by completing the signings of goalkeeper Stan Amos and defender Hayden Carson for the remainder of the season. Dean Gill’s side are currently seventh in the Northern Premier League Midlands division, with James Storer having played a key role in their campaign so far. Storer now returns to Wolves in search of a loan mover higher up the football pyramid.

Republic of Ireland U19 international goalkeeper James Storer had been with Darlaston since August and tops their appearance charts with 28 games in the first half of the season. The move was the 20-year-old’s first taste of senior football, and he went on to truly shine as part of the newly promoted side. Manager Dean Gill was full of praise for Storer throughout his spell until the very end, writing “we’re not disappointed he’s going, we’re extremely grateful he came” whilst also praising Storer for being a credit to his parent club. With Lewys Benjamin and Josh Gracey making good of their opportunities in the U21s this season Storer is unlikely to appear for the side before heading out on loan again, though he could appear in the Rochdale or Blackburn Rovers U21 fixtures111 next week in an appeal to scouts.

Stan Amos has struggled to make an impact since signing his first professional contract back in July. His only appearance for the Wolves youth teams so far this season came in the Birmingham Senior Cup second round away against Boldmere St. Michaels, which Wolves U21s lost 2-1. Despite only being 18, this will not be Amos’ first exposure to senior football. The goalkeeper, who has been with Wolves since the age of 14, spent last season with Wolverhampton Casuals and made 35 appearances in the Midland Football League Premier division. This move provides Amos with more game time in a division higher than his previous spell.

18-year-old Hayden Carson has also found it difficult to get minutes for the U21 side this season. His only PL2 appearance has come as a substitute against Aston Villa as Carson has found himself behind Voice, Mabete, Pond and Hubner in the pecking order. However, Carson’s fantastic record for the U18s last season is proof that he still has plenty of potential to fulfill. Hayden made 23 U18 Premier League appearances, even taking over the captaincy towards the latter end of the season. Now Carson gets an opportunity to prove himself in a senior setting for the first time.

While no official partnership exists between Wolves and Darlaston Town (1874), it would certainly seem that there is some kind of agreement in place to provide Wolves’ young talent with much needed minutes. Hopefully Amos and Carson can match the success Storer had at the club.
