Well, we had a good go second half.
Great to see Munetsi prove he’s a little bit more than just ‘Mr Cardio’ – he deserved that. Also nice to see Tom King get such a send off, clearly he’s top class behind the scenes.
Shame a well-earned point wasn’t enough to see us finish any higher but a lot of the damage was done in those games against Brighton and Palace. We headed for the beach a few games too early and despite sitting a little higher in recent weeks, 16th -all in all- is no more or less than we deserve.
In retrospect we were mathematically safe after beating Southampton away, on 15th March. Ultimately, that’s what Pereira was brought here to achieve- and he’s done it with absolute ease.
Now however, from this position of relative stability, it’s time to start looking upwards. We can’t continue to exist like this. Ambition is football’s life blood.
Over to you Fosun and Co.
Big summer ahead.
KARL WHITEHOUSE
Today, we saw a team start brightly by creating chances against a Brentford side that presses hard and creates threats.
Vitor will be annoyed by the goal we conceded, as our defending wasn’t up to standard. We gave them too much space in our final third, and that came from their first attack on our goal. This will need to be addressed in the summer.
We reacted well after going behind, having moments where we attacked the Brentford goal. However, our finishing was off, either missing the target or shooting straight at the goalkeeper. At times, Brentford pressed us high, causing mistakes by finding players in front of our defenders. We will need to improve this in future game plans.
In the second half, we saw the improved levels from Vitor’s time here, with better pressing and more control of the ball. It was good to see us giving Brentford a game and causing them problems.
I was pleased for Munetsi, who scored again after a great assist from Jorgen Strand Larsen. Jorgen has had a strong second half of the season in terms of goals and assists, thanks to the service he’s been given. That will need to continue next season.
We had moments where we allowed Brentford back into the game but were lucky to get away with it. I’m happy with the point, which ends our three-game losing streak. Being 16th in the league from where we started is a good achievement for a group that had lost confidence. Vitor knows what must be done now, especially as some players will leave.
We wait to see what the summer brings. We back Vitor for next season and look forward to what he does in the transfer window. Hopefully, he will take the team to the next level, as this is just the beginning.
