Wolves fans share their thoughts following Liverpool 2 Wolves 1 a scoreline that doesn't tell the full story.

GEORGE LAKIN

Gutted. Totally dominated the second half. On balance we deserved something from the game.

Munetsi was a revelation (at centre forward?) and Bellegarde worked exceptionally hard again. Their physicality, energy and pressing unsettled Liverpool to the point it nullified them at source.

Easy to say Munetsi/Bellegarde should’ve started, but in hindsight I understand Pereira going with the side he did after that Villa display. What’s important (and a reason to be confident going forward) was that the manager showed yet again he is capable of making effective in-game changes.

A moment of sheer class from Cunha gave us every opportunity, but we just couldn’t land that final blow. It wasn’t for the want of trying though.

Overarching feeling is pride in the team today. They left absolutely nothing out their second half, very hard to criticise even in the face of defeat.

I’m taking far more positives from that performance than negatives.

Onwards, with belief still fully intact, to the next 9 games- each represents a genuine opportunity to pick up points. If we perform anything like the level we did in the second half today, every single one of those games is there for the taking.

CRAIG HICKEY

Well I’m pretty proud of that performance today, the second half was so much better than the first. The first goal was luck, the penalty was harsh,

The second penalty involving Jota was a farce, he should have got a yellow. We gave it a good go after half time, a brilliant goal by Cunha and so many other chances to get a draw out of the game, we deserved one.

Liverpool are not firing too well at the moment and we played really well, blocks, tackles, counter attacks and determination. We will get the results if we play like that from now until May. I really hope Agbadou coming off is a precaution but Santi Bueno stepped up and Munetsi looked dangerous at times.

Everyone played well today, we look so much more organised at the back, as I said earlier, the goals were unlucky. Onwards and upwards, praise from Sandy Robertson says everything about the respect they showed us.

JOHN TARAS

Too much respect:

Sadly Wolves gave Liverpool too much respect in the first half. Five changes from last week affected the cohesion and style of the team. Sa was not as sure behind Toti and Agbadou.  The switch back to Gomes and Andre, leaving out Bellegarde seemed to weaken us.

Refeereeing:

The ugly suspicion of top v bottom Refereeing bias reared its head for me. Simon Hooper allowed Liverpool a lot more leniency than I felt he gave Wolves. The two Wolves bookings for Agbadou and Doherty were borne out of frustration of the above point! Konate should have seen a second yellow for his swinging arm that floored the Wolves attacker. No booking!
Liverpool persisted in grabbing shirts if Wolves mounted a counterattack.
The award of Diaz penalty was dubious. He left his leg in to make contact with the diving Sa before completing about six revelutions on the floor!

Transformation in the second half:

Wolves came out and got into Liverpool. You wish that had been the style in the first half. High press in numbers caused Liverpool problems. Yes Salah had a goal correctly disallowed for offside. Jota had a penalty claim also struck off because Agbadou made no contact with him. But Wolves got a goal back and Liverpool could not have complained if they’d scored an equaliser.

Changes:

Munetsi and Bellegarde transformed the team in the second half. Munetsi had a glorious chance to score the first but Becker thwarted him one on one!

Things learnt:

Wolves now have the armoury in the squad to secure enough points for survival. The squad has greater depth. But they can’t give teams a two goal lead before they play their own game!

Going forward:

Two difficult but winnable games against Bournemouth and Fulham. Plus an enticing 5th Round Cup game against Bournemouth. A trip to Wembley still a possibility.

Proud of the lads second half performance. Took the game to the League Leaders from 2-0 down and desperately unlucky not to get a draw.

PAM WELLS

After Liverpools recent results I was a bit worried we might be the whipping boys.
We made 5 changes from the cup game. Come on boys.

Liverpool were on the attack from kick off but we were handling things quite well. Unfortunately they scored a lucky goal early on.

We weren’t really offering much up front so the ball was coming back at us most of the time.

The referee wasn’t helping us . We were getting booked easily but every time Liverpool went down they were given fouls.
They  got awarded a penalty after one of Sa’s slide tackles .

2-0 down and it was worrying how big the score would be.

At the beginning of the 2nd half Sarabia and Guedes came off for Bellegarde and Munetsi. Immediately the play changed. We were attacking fast and sharp. Could we make it pay and inevitably Cunha got a fantastic strike with his left foot what a goal and it was 2-1.

They were then awarded another penalty but it was obvious from the replay Jota had dived. It went to VAR and they over turned the decision. Agbadou got injured in the tackle and Bueno came on.

Off we went again wave of attacks coming fast and furious. Doyle came on for Gomes . Why would the ball not go in the goal!!!.
Lima came in for Semedo for extra time  but try as we may we just couldn’t get the equaliser.

We definitely deserved at least a point out of that 2nd half but I was really proud of the lads.
There were a few contenders for man of the match in that half but for an overall performance I am giving it to Matt Doherty.
Performance rating 7 .

KARL WHITEHOUSE

Our defending leading up to the opening goal was questionable when Toti Gomes helped Luis Diaz score. This mistake occurred after we had no issues in the early part of the game, where he should have cleared it away from goal. This setback still kept us in the game as long as we could press the Liverpool goal to catch them out on a counterattack or with a set-piece movement.

Toti and Agbadou appeared a bit shaky at the back, getting in each other’s way in defence. The back line clearly needed to be solid to keep Liverpool from scoring further goals.

We faced another moment of controversy when there was a push on Agbadou before the penalty decision, but VAR cleared it, leaving us to face the challenge of getting back into the game.

At half-time, Wolves needed to be more clinical in their shooting, testing the goalkeeper who hadn’t faced much trouble. We worried that two of our three backline players, who were booked, needed to be on their best behaviour to avoid a red card. We could not afford that, as the floodgates might have opened, and some decision-making during the game had been poor.

Vitor Pereira made changes at the break, bringing on two fresh players to try to gain a foothold in the game. Munetsi, one of those substitutes, almost got us back in with a run towards goal.

VAR helped us this time by correctly overturning a penalty decision that was given on the field, but we were lucky there.

During this period of pressure in the second half, in Liverpool’s half, we managed to get back into the game with Cunha, who was there at the right time to score. We needed to keep it up and press for an equaliser.

In the second half, we caused Liverpool issues in their own half, creating chances and making them very nervous after what had happened in their previous game.

We felt proud of our team as we deserved to get a draw. There were plenty of positives to take from this game, where we had chances to level it up. This would bode well for the rest of the campaign, where we competed well in difficult games. We could hold our heads high after this and managed to keep Liverpool from getting any shots on our goal in the second half with a different approach.
