PAM WELLS
Newcastle were the visitors today.
Rob picked a strong team, and so did Newcastle. We struggled in the first 10 minutes, but after that we settled and played a composed first half. We did not create many clear chances, though.
At the back, we stayed calm under pressure, and Tolu and Mane worked well up front. We made no changes at the start of the second half, but the game became more open and even.
Tolu went off for Larsen, which felt a bit early in my opinion. Then Arias replaced João Gomes. After Tolu came off, we did not look as much of a threat going forward. Later, Rodrigo Gomes came on for Hwang.
The referee was poor. It felt like he gave Newcastle soft fouls all game, and they went down at every opportunity. Sa made an important late save to keep us in it. A draw was probably fair, but after yesterday’s results it felt like we needed all three points.
Still, the effort was there again, and that is good to see.

A point earned in a match that did not set the ground alight. Still, it did show that Wolves are slowly turning things around. The arrival of Rui Silva to assist Rob Edwards seems to have played a big part in the recent improvement. It makes you wonder where we might be if we had started the season with that pairing.
Wolves managed just two shots on target in 96 minutes, which tells its own story. We looked more solid, but we did not carry enough threat to turn a decent performance into a win.
The next run is tough, with City, Bournemouth, and Chelsea coming up. That does not feel like a stretch where points will be easy to find. Rob Edwards now needs to settle on his best style and start making clear decisions on who he wants to keep if the worst happens and we end up in the Championship. Some of the Latino players will likely want to stay in the Premier League if they can.
For me, it is hard to see us getting out of trouble now. We are simply too far behind.
On a brighter note, Wolves Women kept their momentum going with an 8-0 Cup win. They’re into the semi-finals.

Our defence saved us but that won’t score goals. We need to get the ball up the pitch quicker and quit the nerves when we get close to scoring.
Silly mistakes could have cost us the game. It shouldn’t take long to make a decision on who to pass the ball to but we were taking an age to decide on small passes that any other team would have known what to do quicker.
I see the effort and passion in the team, but that doesn’t win games. Lucky to share the points.

The table might still say rock bottom, but this Wolves team finally looks like it knows what it’s doing.
A goalless draw with a Champions League Newcastle was earned. Organised. Disciplined. Full of players fighting for the shirt. Newcastle barely threatened, didn’t even manage a shot on target until late, and that tells you everything about how solid we were.
This is a Wolves side that’s becoming hard to play against again. Everyone doing their job, backing each other up, throwing bodies in the way. Five games unbeaten now in all competitions and, for the first time in a long while, there’s a clear identity on the pitch.
Wolves played with fearless intent, José Sá stood tall when called upon, and the back line refused to budge. No panic. No hiding. Just graft.
Is it probably too late to save the season? Maybe. But this feels different. Under Rob Edwards we’re organised, resilient and believing again. If this is the standard going forward, Wolves fans can finally see something worth backing.

We knew this was a game where we had to keep our recent standards up. The performances have improved, and if we are going to give ourselves any chance of staying up, we need to keep that momentum going.
In the first half, we looked good at times. Our shape was strong, we defended well, and we created a couple of decent openings late on that could have led to a goal. Newcastle did not create much clear pressure, and Andre and João Gomes did a solid job in midfield, helping to control the game and break up attacks.
The second half was less convincing. Our shape dropped off and our passing became sloppy. We gave the ball away too easily and invited pressure. Was it fitness, game management, or both? It is hard to say, but we did manage to stay in it.
The final 10 minutes were nervy. Newcastle pushed hard and we were hanging on, but José Sa came up big to keep the clean sheet.
Overall, it felt like a missed chance to take all three points. A draw means two points dropped, but we are still unbeaten in 2026, and there is still time to salvage something in the second half of the season.
One player who really impressed me today was Hugo Bueno. He found good spaces, stayed involved, and had a strong game.
I’d give this performance a 6.5.

After scoring 6 in the FA Cup and grabbing a late goal in the 1-1, you come into this one expecting to see us find the net again.
Match thoughts: Sadly, it was a dull game. No goals, very few chances, and not much to get excited about. Still, a point is a point.
Team selection: Rob Edwards stuck with the same line-up, and you can see why. He knows what works and the team looked organised for long spells.
Man of the Match: José Sá. He made a couple of crucial saves and kept us in the game. Really impressed with him today.
Overall rating: 6/10. We could have won it, and we could have lost it, so a 0-0 draw and a point feels about fair.
