Wolves are leading the charge to sign Southampton striker Che Adams on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer. The 27-year-old Scotsman has caught the eye of Gary O’Neil, who is keen to bolster his attacking options at Molineux for the 2024/25 campaign.
Adams’ Premier League experience and goal-scoring prowess make him an attractive prospect, having netted 25 times and provided 13 assists across four seasons with the Saints. Despite interest from relegation-threatened Everton and Nottingham Forest in previous windows, Wolves appear to be the frontrunners for his signature.
With no new deal agreed at Southampton, Adams is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. This presents an opportunity for Wolves to secure a proven Premier League striker without a transfer fee, which could be a shrewd move as they aim to comply with the league’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.
While a contract extension at St Mary’s cannot be ruled out, Adams’ priority seems to lie elsewhere. His impressive form this season, with nine goals in his last 18 appearances for Southampton, has only heightened the interest from potential suitors.
Wolves have relied heavily on the attacking trio of Matheus Cunha, Pedro Neto, and Hwang Hee-chan this season, but their recent injuries have exposed the need for more experienced competition up front. With Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome currently vying for a starting role, the addition of Adams could provide much-needed depth and quality in the final third.
