Nigel Lonwijk and Joe Hodge – Huddersfield Town – EFL League One
Joe Hodge was supposed to link up with the Ireland U21 side this international break but has suffered a groin injury that could see Hodge out for up to two months. The Ireland U21 captain pulled out of Jim Crawford’s squad along with Mason Melia. Nigel Lonwijk however was available for Tuesday’s game with Barnsley in the Bristol Street Motors trophy. The centre-back played the full 90 minutes as Huddersfield beat the tykes 2-0. The terriers are 3rd in group F of the competition, a group currently being topped by Manchester United U21s.
AFC Fylde appointed a new manager this week as former Sunderland and Birmingham City man Kevin Phillips took the reins of the Vanarama national side. This weekend Fylde were in FA Cup action as they hosted Rochdale who dumped Roberts and company out of the competition in the fourth qualifying round. Tyler Roberts began the game on the bench but came on after just 18 minutes due to an injury to Bryce Hosannah. Rochdale thumped the hosts 4-1 but Roberts got himself on the scoresheet when he converted a low driven cross on the 86-minute mark. A second of the season for the Wolves loanee but a bad start for new boss Phillips.
Lucas Kibrya – Wolverhampton Casuals – Midlands Football League Premier Division
Wolverhampton Casuals faced Uttoxeter Town this weekend, the team that sat above them in the league table. Kibrya was in goal as the Cassies lifted themselves off of the bottom of the table with a 2-1 win, Tyler Bishop leaving it late to secure all three points for the home side. Kibrya’s Casuals side won’t get a chance to continue this form in the league however, as focus turns to cup competition next week when the JW Hunt Cup begins. The annual charity competition has Telford Town visiting Brinsford Stadium on Tuesday.
James Storer – Darlaston Town – Northern Premier Division
While Wolverhampton Casuals managed to climb the Midland Football League Premier table, George Hardy and Highgate United were not quite so happy this week. Hardy was in goal as Highgate welcomed Stourport Swifts on Saturday. The high-flying swifts are now 3rd in the table and the gulf between the sides was on full display. A first-half barrage saw the visitors win 4-0 at the expense of Highgate who are 16 th and only one point ahead of Kibrya and the Cassies. Hardy would have been particularly displeased with the second goal, as a looping cross turned shot from Drew Canavan sailed over everyone and found its way into the net at the far post.
