LOUIE LEFEVRE BRINGS YOU NEWS ON THE U18S DRAW IN BIRMINGHAM SENIOR CUP

Wolves U18s have learned who their opponents will be in the second round of the historic Birmingham Senior Cup. Wolves will travel to the Amber Arena and Community Stadium, home of Boldmere St. Michaels. ‘The Mikes’ currently sit 10th in the Northern Premier League Midlands division, the same league where James Storer is on loan with Darlaston Town.

Wolves reached the third round of last year’s competition, beating AFC Wulfrunians 3-1 in the second round before being eliminated by Darlaston on penalties. Wolves have won the competition seven times, but the last victory was back in 1987 when Wolves reserves needed a replay to eventually defeat Burton Albion. Scott Sellars’ U23 side reached the final in 2017 but lost to Leamington on penalties in front of a crowd of 920 at Molineux.

There is no age limit for the competition. Historically, larger sides entered their first teams but have since used reserve, U23, U21, and now U18 teams. Wolves used some of their U21 players in the competition last season, with Leo Lopes and Ethan McLeod both starting against Darlaston. The BSC is the oldest county cup in England and allows U18s to face regional first-team opposition to gain valuable experience. Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Burton Albion, West Brom, Walsall, and Coventry City also enter the second round. Ties are scheduled for on or before Saturday 23rd November, with the date for the game yet to be confirmed.

For the fans, the competition offers a chance to visit fantastic non-league grounds in the West Midlands and see potential stars of Wolves’ future at affordable prices while supporting clubs in lower divisions. The BSC is always an exciting competition, and hopefully, Wolves can make a deep run this time around.
