ANDREW BENNETT SHARES HIS WOLVES PLAYER RATINGS
The less said the better today, that is reflected in the player ratings…
Jose Sa – 6
Couldn’t do anything with either goal, shouldn’t put the defenders in such precarious situations but that’s what happens when you have a keeper who can’t kick long.
Rayan Ait Nouri – 6
The most forward thinking player among a sorry lot. Got forward a lot especially in the second half however a poor final ball or decision in pass meant the hosts couldn’t find the net. Was caught out for Brighton’s game clincher not getting close enough to his man.
Toti – 6
Defensively answered most the questions was the least sloppy in the back line when it came to passing out and did push forward. Like the rest of the side too slow.
Emmanuel Agbadou – 4
The worst performance since joining in January a weak pass set up Cunha’s moment of madness to concede the Wolves penalty. Otherwise defended okay but had far too many sloppy passes.
Matt Doherty – 5
Similar to Toti didn’t do anything outrageous but slowed the game down far too much.
Nelson Semedo – 3
One of the worst performances I’ve seen of Semedo in a Wolves shirt seemed too often to be bullied and passive with the ball. An afternoon to forget for the captain’s potentially penultimate Molinuex performance.
Joao Gomes – 5
Could see the frustration from Joao all game until he was substituted. Nothing he was trying was coming off too many sloppy passes and indecision in the final third as he bared down on goal to pass when he should’ve taken a shot himself.
Andre – 6 (Man of the Match)
Left it all out there and covered brilliantly on too many occasions to count as he bailed out poor passes from teammates. The Brazilian was not exempt from sloppy passing and also put a few balls out of play. Awarded man of the match for offering multiple moments of absolute class in a poor performance.
Marshall Munetsi – 3
Can’t fault the effort but without Larsen Munetsi really looks half the player. We are all aware of his technical limitations and on a day when the side is not performing Munetsi was simply ineffective even when dropping into central midfield as Joao Gomes was withdrawn.
Matheus Cunha – 5
Forced the best save from Verbruggen that Wolves managed to force the Dutchman into during the game, however provided a moment of madness hacking down the Brighton attacker after a weak touch to award the Seagulls a first half penalty. Otherwise a walking performance.
Gonçalo Guedes – 5
Made many runs more than any other forward player and had a brilliant chance in the first half only to flick the ball over from a clever set play by Cunha to find Guedes in space 8 yards out. Other than this with the ball ineffective and failed to ever take on his man.
The subs:
Four substitutes were made on the 59th minute with Sarabia, Larsen, Rodrigo Gomes and Bellegarde being introduced for Joao. Gomes, Cunha, Guedes and Doherty.
Pablo Sarabia – 3
Shocking substitute performance from Sarabia who tried to force passes too much sent a madness crossfield ball which was intercepted in the build up for Brightons second goal and was just totally off it.
Rodrigo Gomes – 5
Too many times Sarabia was in Gomes’ space making the Portuguese winger ineffective. Put in a few crosses but nothing much happened from any of them. Can’t fault his pressing effort.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 6
The best substitute of the lot pressing high and looked to link the play. Nearly got on the end of an Ait Nouri cross but it was deflected away from the Norwegian. If fully fit and played from the start with this attitude I think he would have greatly impacted the final result of the game.
Jean Ricner Bellegarde – 5
Fired a shot over the bar from the edge of the box which can be taken as a positive given the lack of efforts on goal. Otherwise was anonymous and didn’t pull Wolves up the pitch.
The final sub was Mane coming on for his Wolves debut to replace Andre. The 17 year old was not on the pitch enough for a score but looked comfortable receiving the ball and received great praise from Vitor after the game.
A day to forget as the hosts were on the beach in sunny Wolverhampton.
