As the winning streak comes to an end, Wolves fans comment on the performance against Manchester City

GEORGE LAKIN

Winning run had to end somewhere, watching City eke out a 1-0 at the Etihad was about the most dignified way imaginable.

Won’t be much said about us that game, just another result for the City machine that have refound their mojo.

But we were in that game all the way, and I think that shows us going into next season that with Vitor Pereira at the helm we can compete with anyone. No game is a write off.

A far cry from where we were at the start of the season.

Proud of many elements of that display tonight: calm, organised and solid again, though this time without the result to go with it. That was the only difference really.

On reflection, it was always going to be tough, but we practically shut the game down and probably deserved a point. That’s not easy against this lot.

There was more than enough in there to keep riding the wave heading into Brighton.

In the meantime, hopefully a few results go our way and we can hold onto 13th over the weekend.

Onwards and upwards. Still feeling good.

Tonight’s result shows just how much Vitor Pereira has improved Wolves since they last played City.

The overall statistics for the game. Jose Sa made one save and conceded one goal in 90 minutes. Ederson made one save and Wolves hit the post twice in 90 minutes. With a little bit more luck Wolves would not have come away empty handed.

They were better in the first half where they pressed City continuously forcing City to turn and pass back before starting the play again.

Wolves relied on fast turnovers which brought the two near misses hitting the post.

City went through all their substitutions but they couldn’t add to their goal. The one goal Wolves conceded came from a lapse by Andre. One of those rare events which he chastised himself for.

But both he and Joao Gomes put another non stop shift in to combat City’s relentless attempts to try and control the game.
The way the game flowed from end to end there was always a chance of Wolves getting an equaliser right up until the 95th minute.

I think Pep Guardiola would have been very relieved when the final whistle went. Vitor Pereira I feel would have thought what might have been if either of the two shots had gone in and not struck the post.
But in conclusion it brings Wolves unbeaten run to an end after six straight wins. Wolves will just have to go out and win the last three fixtures.

PAM WELLS

Man City tonight so our winning run will be tested.

As expected  City had most of the possession in the opening minutes but we were good in defence with them not getting any chances but we had a few break away chances.
On the 20 minute mark Cunha made a great break away and Semedo crossed the ball to Munetsi but he just couldn’t get his foot on it so our first real chance came to nothing.

Inevitably City started to come more into the game and it felt like a goal was coming. Andre had been having a great game but lost the ball on the halfway line and the build up play fell to De Bruyne who put the ball away and we went 1-0 down .

That seemed to give City the momentum and it felt like they could have got another before half time but we held on with some good defensive work.

Second half started pretty much the same with City having most of the possession  without us creating much in the way of chances

In an effort to get the equaliser Vitor brought on Bueno for Semedo and Guedes for Andre but City really shut up shop and just played possession football. Finally Hwang came on for Cunha and we had a chance in the last minute of extra time which resulted in a corner with Sa coming up for it but the chance didn’t come to anything.

First half we matched them well until they scored but second half City had most of the possession and after promising so much first half it petered out second half.

I found it hard to pick a man of the match . Andre and Bellegarde both played well in the first half an hour but I am giving it to Rayan Ait Nouri who kept going through the whole game

Performance rating 6
End of our winning streak but I think we could have come away with  a draw.

Wolves entered this game after winning their last six matches against a Manchester City side on a similar run.

We were the better team in the first 25 minutes, creating and taking chances. We had a good shot that hit the post, and our press caused problems for City.

In the last 20 minutes of the first half, Manchester City’s high press forced us back. This pressure made us make mistakes in defence, which led to the opening goal. Vitor will need to address this issue to help us get back into the game.

In the second half, we played better and created chances. City played more defensively, allowing us to get more into the game.

We had chances to equalise, with the ball hitting the post. These fine margins make a big difference in a tight game.

We have to be proud of the team’s performance despite the result. There are positives to take into the next game. It’s been a great run for the team, but we faced a side that defended their lead tightly. We competed on every front, but our finishing needed to be sharper. This might have gone differently if our main striker had been fit.

Everyone should keep faith in this team for the last three games of the season and cheer them on. Vitor has made this team great again.
