Spurs got us underway this evening with some early pressure in the opening minutes, testing Wolves shape and back line looking for an early opening.
Hwang Hee Chan responds and wins Wolves an early corner which was flicked on but nothing made of it in the early stages. Wolves continued the pressure with nice hold up play from our number 9 Jorgen Strand Larsen and retaining even more possession utilising the left hand flank quite effectively.
Wolves settling for a positive 62%-38% possession in their favour in the opening 10 getting the away fans behind the team.
Spurs hit Wolves on the attack after a nice spell of possession after Hugo Bueno loses the ball in midfield, the ball is crossed back post to Kudus who flicks a header toward Sam Johnstone who tips the ball onto the bar, a warning and let off for Wolves at the back post. Best chance falling to the home side so far.
Another opportunity that comes to nothing for Spurs with Hwang on the counter seeking a ball to the right flank but gives the ball away to Udogie who drives the ball to the edge of the area delivering a cross to Bergvall who cannot connect a volley. Wolves let off again.
Wolves heads drop and a lovely move from Spurs results in a finish that is thankfully offside for Wolves sake, a lovely strike top corner from Mohammed Kudus and Tottenham starting to ask plenty of questions at the half hour mark.
Wolves with the ball at the back and Santi Bueno with a lovely through ball down the right to Jhon Arias who strikes the ball with some force over the bar outside the area.
A few minutes before the interval Spurs hit Wolves on the attack and a lovely connection from Kudus saved on Johnstone’s right, the ball comes out to Munetsi on the edge and a raised foot from the Wolves number 5 nearly results in a penalty from contact with Palhinha but after review no penalty is awarded.
Immediately before the whistle, Wolves win a corner flicked on by Santi and the woodwork hit by Matt Doherty back post, so close to breaking the deadlock and the whistle blown swiftly after.
First Half – Tottenham 0-0 Wolves
A half filled with plenty of warning signs pinpointed to Kudus on the right, threatening. Yet again Andre producing a great first half performance for Wolves both defensively and offensively. More needed in the second half from JSL but there is positives to take!
Two changes for the second half, Tchatchoua on for Doherty and Hwang off for Agbadou, a clear change of plans from Vitor Pereira, a shift into a back 5.
An early Wolves corner in the half results in a scuffle in the box and it is turned home by SANTI BUENO 1-0 WOLVES, they won’t care how they got turned home. A 1-0 lead for the away side, away end pandemonium.
Wolves surging with confidence after the goal keeping the ball knocking together some lovely moves, hopefully more of the same as the half progresses.
60 minute mark and Spurs make their first changes, Johnson and Porro on for Spence and Bentancur.
Wolves follow suit replacing Joao Gomes with Bellegarde, away fans not pleased alongside himself. Strange decision but a more attacking presence.
Wolves continuing to play some lovely stuff after the changes made, Wolves with another nice opportunity with Bellegarde surging past Bergvall but hitting it wide, Wolves playing some lovely stuff.
Another huge chance down the left through Hugo Bueno after an excellent move, but hit straight at Vicario… big big chance for Wolves but we cannot take advantage.
A second goal looks possible here at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, managing this lead very well. Looks a different Wolves side to previous games. Defending so well as a pack and a team, Vitor Pereira visibly pleased with the display so far… 10 minutes plus stoppages to play.
Strand Larsen with a very good 83 minutes in the tank, replaced by Tolu Arokodare.
A calm continued effort from Wolves and 5 minutes to be added on, a performance so far to be incredibly proud of.. on the back of poor form to come away to this ground and produce a performance like this takes pure determination and hard work.
Corner work and Tolu retaining the ball in the corner winning consecutive corners then Toti on for Arias to try and see the game through. Spurs now piling on the final pressure seeking a point, Wolves standing firm. But its heartbreak in the final moments for Wolves. Joao Palhinha equalises with a wonderful finish bottom right corner. Pereira absolutely distraught on the sideline.
Full time 1-1.
