Jeff Shi BBC WM Interview Reaction (Wolves Fans On The Club’s Direction)

Watch the video for the full take on Jeff Shi's interview

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi finally spoke at length on BBC WM with Mike Taylor, joined by new technical director Matt Jackson. The morning after, Dazzling Dave brought Jason Guy, Craig (Tuba Wolves) and Emma together for a honest fan reaction on Always Wolves. This blog is a short taster of that chat, not a full write up. If you care about where Wolves are heading, you will want to watch the video itself.

What this discussion is about

This was a rare early morning special on the channel. Dave had not heard the interview live because he and Jason were attending the Wolves Disability Supporters Association Christmas do at the Pavilions in Wolverhampton.

Straight after that, attention turned to Jeff Shi’s interview. Fans had been asking for communication. Jeff finally spoke. The panel sat down to reflect on what he said, how he said it, and what it really tells us about the direction of Wolves.

A few of the big talking points

The video is packed with detail and strong opinion. Here are just some of the talking points that come up, without giving you a full transcript.

1. Business stability vs the football product

Craig makes the case that there are now two streams at Wolves:

  • A business stream, where Jeff is focused on balance sheets, PSR and long‑term financial stability.
  • A football stream, which for fans is everything, and which is clearly going backwards.

He says he can understand some of what Jeff says as a businessman, but he cannot accept that the club is being treated like a spreadsheet while the product on the pitch “stinks”.

Emma adds that Jeff sounded like a man at an appraisal, pointing to numbers and structure while ignoring the loss of value on the pitch and the club moving backwards in the league.

2. “I’m not an expert in football”

One line from Jeff really riles people.

He says he is not an expert in football. Jason calls it both the truest thing Jeff has said and something he did not need to tell anyone, because fans can already see it.

The panel argue that proper leaders take responsibility, admit what they do not know, and then surround themselves with football people who challenge them. Instead, they feel Jeff has filled the room with “nodding dogs”, people who agree with him rather than argue for the good of the club.

3. Relegation, “technical issues” and job losses

Another big flashpoint is Jeff describing relegation as a technical issue.

For fans who have watched Wolves drop divisions before, that wording hits a nerve. The panel talk about:

  • The risk to local jobs in and around Molineux, not just club staff on the payroll.
  • Corporate areas that are already hard to sell in the Premier League, let alone in the Championship.
  • The impact on the Foundation, hospitality, marketing, media and casual staff.

Jason is especially scathing about the claim that no jobs would be lost if Wolves go down, calling it unrealistic when demand for boxes and corporate packages is already low.

4. Small club mentality, ceilings and the 10‑year plan

The way Jeff talked about Wolves as a small club with a ceiling really jars with the panel.

Jason remembers the early promise of competing with the top clubs and the talk of a 10‑year plan. The reality, he says, looks more like: get promoted, have a few good years, then slide back into the Championship in our 150th year.

Craig and Emma both argue that you never hear successful leaders in any business label their own organisation as “small” and capped. Ambitious people talk about growth, not ceilings.

Fans, protests and how support is being read

The discussion also touches on the recent protests, including fans staying out for the first 15 minutes and those who chose to go straight to their seats.

Craig and Dave are clear that:

  • Every fan has the right to decide how to show their feelings.
  • The danger is that Jeff reads full stands as support for him, not just love for the team.
  • Peaceful, thought‑through protests are more effective than stunts that make it easy for the club to dismiss the message.

They talk about fan groups coming together, such as the Old Gold Pack, the 1877 Trust and the wider Wolves Fan Alliance, and the idea that even one completely empty 15 minutes at Molineux would send a powerful message if fans want change.

What they want to see from Jeff Shi and Fosun

The panel do not just criticise. They also talk about what could still be done.

Key things they would like to see include:

  • A footballing CEO to work alongside or instead of Jeff, someone from outside with real football experience.
  • A proper fans’ forum at Molineux, open to a wide range of supporters, with unfiltered questions and honest follow‑ups.
  • Clearer communication about senior departures, such as Russell Jones and other long‑serving staff.
  • A genuine change of strategy if Wolves go down, with a real plan to return and then stay in the Premier League.

Emma highlights that the current fan advisory board is too small and too distant from the wider fanbase. She would like to see members who clearly represent groups of supporters, with proper two‑way communication.

Why you should watch the full video

This blog only scratches the surface. The real value of the discussion is in the detail, the emotion and the back‑and‑forth between four people who all love Wolves, even if they do not agree on every detail.

Whatever your stance on Fosun or Jeff Shi, one thing is clear. Wolves fans are not short of passion, ideas or care for the club. The big question now is whether the people in charge are ready to listen and give that hope back.

I went in v manure but Don’t insult me by suggesting I don’t care, I had just got over a bad cold and am diabetic, at 76 years old I’ve seen it all before in my 72 seasons of continuously attending matches at the mol since 1953 aged four, I support any action but feel it is futile against these people running the club, they are hardnosed business people and haven’t made their billions by being soft and caring about their “customers” that we are, yes it’s our club and the club we all love but at the end of the day we don’t own it.
You probably won’t agree with me but it’s a fact and something we have to handle, inside the ground we can make ourselves heard, outside they just shut us out by for example closing the blinds and Shi’ s latest comments prove it, it’s an insult to everyone that he say’s he’s a fan HE IS NOT and never will be, we bleed Gold and Black – does he, we need to raise the noise levels INSIDE of the ground at every match home and away.
