WATCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW AHEAD OF EVERTON V WOLVES

TEAM NEWS

Everton head into Wednesday night short in a few key areas. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Seamus Coleman are all out with hamstring injuries, which limits their options in midfield and across the back line. The bigger issue is in attack. Iliman Ndiaye is away with Senegal at AFCON, and Idrissa Gana Gueye is also on international duty. Ndiaye has been Everton’s most creative outlet this season, so his absence could blunt their threat in the final third and make it harder for them to turn good build-up play into clear chances.

Wolves have been handed a small boost ahead of the trip to Everton, with João Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan both back out on the training pitch. Rob Edwards said he is hopeful they will be available, although their fitness may still need checking closer to kick-off. Beyond that, Wolves are not expecting any other returns from the players who have been missing recently, with the likes of Bellegarde and Munetsi  still progressing but not ready for this game. That means Edwards may have to plan with a similar group again, and keep a close eye on Gomes and Hwang right up until matchday.

ROB EDWARDS

  • He confirmed that Joao Gomes and Hwang Hee-chan, who came off against West Ham, should both be fine to play on Wednesday. None of the injured players who were previously out will return, but Edwards says “people are progressing on time”.

  • On the importance of getting the first league win of the season last time out against West Ham: “Internally, it’s not been the end of the world that we hadn’t won. It was a really good day for us and the supporters needed it more than anyone else.”

  • He stressed the importance of not getting ahead of themselves: “We are under no illusions that after a couple of good results we have cracked it, far from it. This is going to be a very tough game.”

  • On the improvement of Jhon Arias in recent weeks: “He wants to feel involved and be in the game. If he can be in the game, we will see the best of him. Perhaps being deeper keeps him in the game more.”

  • Edwards insisted that the club are still working hard to bring in new recruits during this month’s transfer window.

MATCH STATS & FACTS

  • Following their 3-2 win at Molineux in August, Everton are looking to complete the league double over Wolves for the first time since 2020-21.

  • Wolves have lost two of their last three Premier League games against Everton (D1), as many as they had in their previous nine against them (W6 D1).

  • Wolves have won four Premier League away games against Everton (D2 L5), only winning more often at Southampton (5) and Tottenham (5) in the competition.

  • Everton have lost both of their last two Premier League games at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the first time they have done so at their new ground. The Toffees last suffered three successive home league defeats in September 2023 (4).

  • Wolves have won none of their last 12 away Premier League matches (D2 L10), having won four consecutively beforehand. They’ve also conceded the opening goal in their last seven on the road (D1 L6), though came from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 at Old Trafford against Man Utd last time out.

  • Everton have lost five of their last nine Premier League matches against sides starting the day bottom of the table (W3 D1), although they won their only one since David Moyes returned as manager, beating Southampton 2-0 in May 2025.

  • Wolves have scored just one goal from open play away from home in the Premier League this season, the fewest of any side. Five of their last six away league goals have come via corners.

  • Everton manager David Moyes has won both of his previous Premier League meetings with Wolves’ Rob Edwards, both while the Welshman was Luton manager in 2023-24. The only manager Moyes has faced more than twice and won 100% of games against in the competition is Gary O’Neil (4/4).

  • Jack Grealish has provided six Premier League assists this season, only recording more in 2022-23 for Man City (7) and 2020-21 for Aston Villa (10). Only Andrei Kanchelskis (8 in 1995-96), Peter Beardsley (7 in 1992-93) and Nick Barmby (7 in 1996-97) have ever assisted more goals in their debut Premier League season for Everton.

  • After his goal and assist against West Ham last time out, Hwang Hee-chan now has 30 Premier League goal involvements (24 goals, 6 assists), with only Raúl Jiménez (58) and Matheus Cunha (42) recording more for Wolves.
