Wolves fans share their thoughts following wolves 6-1 win against Shrewsbury in the fa cup

BECCA

Good game to start off this seasons FA cup campaign.

Well needed hat-trick for Larsen. Also a great goal for Rodrigo Gomes to get after coming back from his injury. Nothing like a good goal to kick confidence back into a player coming back into the team.

Hopefully we can keep up this momentum in the league games. Good substitutes for today’s game. Arias giving that penalty away is the only reason I can’t score the game higher. Let’s take this forward into the league game against Newcastle Sunday.

MOTM Rodrigo Gomes.

EMMA AKA THE PRODUCER

This was one of those rare afternoons where Wolves made it look simple.

A 6-1 win and never really out of second gear for long spells. Shrewsbury did not offer much, and you could see the gap in quality straight away, but we still did the job properly. We started fast, moved the ball well, and turned chances into goals. That is all you can ask for in a cup tie like this.

The big positive is Strand Larsen. He has been short on goals and the noise has been growing, so a hat-trick feels like a real release. The finishes were calm, and his movement looked better too. If that gives him confidence and gets him going in the league, it could be huge for us in the weeks ahead.

Arias also caught the eye. Took his goal well, stayed involved, and played with purpose. He did give away the penalty, which was needless, but he responded in the right way. That matters in a game where heads can drop after a sloppy moment.

It was not perfect, even with the scoreline. Giving away a penalty was avoidable, and there were a couple of moments where we switched off and Shrewsbury nearly made it more awkward than it needed to be. But overall it was controlled, and the later goals showed we kept our focus.

The main thing now is perspective. This result is great for confidence, but it does not guarantee anything in the next round. The FA Cup loves an upset, and Crystal Palace slipping up against Macclesfield is proof that reputation means nothing if you show up flat. No one gets a free pass.

Still, you can only beat what’s in front of you, and Wolves were professional, ruthless, and fun to watch. More of that, please, when the opposition is stronger.

DAVE

After months of frustration & noise, Jørgen Strand Larsen answered it the only way that matters — with a hat-trick.  After 13 games without a goal from his early flicked opener to the Shrewsbury goalies gift and calm third, the confidence came flooding back.

We didn’t mess about either. Arias was lively, scored one and set one up (penalty hiccup aside), great to see Rodrigo Gomes back on the pitch who scored to boot as it turned it into a 6–1 demolition. No FA Cup banana skin. No drama. Just control.

4 games unbeaten now, after 12 straight losses, and a tiny bit of momentum at last.

CRAIG HICKEY

Well, that was straightforward, it wasn’t what I expected, a 2-1 win was my prediction.

Let’s be honest though, Shrewsbury were poor and I thought the penalty for them was soft, harsh and outside the box. Once again, everyone performed well, Larsen took his goals well, Hwang ran and built on his recent performances, Gomes and André looked comfortable.

It was the right team by Rob Edwards, he made the right changes at the start and throughout the game. Six goals is a massive confidence booster and the players are linking up well together and building relationships with each other.

Really pleased for Rodrigo Gomes but gutted that Fer Lopez hit the post when it deserved a goal, his passing was brilliant. Moller Wolfe enjoyed his afternoon, breaking forward impressively and this will be one of the easiest defensive displays this season.

Everyone will have their preferred opposition next time, Who’s yours?

The FA Cup can always throw up surprises. Forest went out to Wrexham last night, so there were no guarantees.

But Wolves started fast. After 12 minutes we were two goals up through Strand Larsen and Arias. We looked in control and were coasting until Arias gave away a penalty on 26 minutes. Marquis finished it calmly. The question was how Wolves would react.

The response was spot on. We kept going, and Strand Larsen punished a mistake from Harrison on 41 minutes to restore our cushion. It was good to see Wolves treating the game like it mattered.

In the second half we kept the pressure on and added three more goals. Strand Larsen completed his hat-trick on 58 minutes. Rodrigo Gomes, who put in a good shift after coming on around the hour, got on the scoresheet late on. Then Tolu Arokodare added another in stoppage time to round it off.

Final score: 6-1 to Wolves. A great result, even if it was against League Two Shrewsbury.

Winning breeds confidence. Strand Larsen, who has not really been at the races this season, grabbed a hat-trick. Gomes returned from injury and scored, and Arokodare chipped in too. The team played on the front foot, moved the ball well, and got the job done.

Overall it was a professional performance from everyone, and scoring six will only help confidence ahead of Newcastle next Sunday. Wolves can now enjoy the rest of the weekend, then focus on a much tougher test.

Well, I did not see this coming before kick-off. Rob Edwards named a strong side, but it still had a mix of players who have not featured much this season.

And what a performance it turned out to be. We scored plenty of goals, which should give us real momentum for both the league run-in and the cup. We have talked a lot about needing to show it on the pitch, and today we did. There was one minor blip, but it is not worth dwelling on because the overall display was so positive.

What stood out most was our identity. We played with purpose, created chances, and showed real intensity and desire. If we keep that level up, fans will be more than happy.

A special mention has to go to Strand Larsen. He has been a big talking point, and today he delivered in style with a hat-trick. That will do his confidence the world of good. But it was not just him. The whole team worked as a unit, and you can see Edwards is getting the players to play the way he wants.

Overall, we are delighted with the result and now we look forward to seeing who we get in the next round.

Could we avoid the cup banana skin against a really struggling team, around 70 places below us? Thankfully, yes, and we did it in style.

It only took nine minutes to see we were up for it. A great ball from Hwang set it up, and Strand Larsen finished well to give us the lead. Just two minutes later, Larsen made the run and slid Arias through for the second.

After that, we seemed to relax a bit and let them back into the game. On 25 minutes they got a penalty. It looked like it might have been outside the box, but with no VAR it stood, and they scored.

To our credit, we went straight back on the front foot and started attacking in numbers again. Then their goalkeeper made a really poor mistake, and Strand Larsen punished it for his second and our third. We went in 3-1 up at half-time and looked comfortable.

The second half followed the same pattern. Around the hour mark, Strand Larsen completed his hat-trick to make it 4-1. We missed a couple of chances, but we kept pushing and kept forcing attacks. Mane came on for Joao Gomes, and Rodrigo Gomes replaced Jackson.

Later, Lopez came on for Hwang and Lima for Arias. Lopez really impressed from the moment he stepped on. His movement was sharp, and he played some excellent passes. He slipped a ball through to Tolu, who then squared it for Rodrigo Gomes to make it 5-1. Minutes later, Tolu got his own goal to make it 6-1.

We cannot get carried away, but it was good to see us create chances and take them.
