ANDREW BENNETT SHARES HIS THOUGHTS AND RATINGS AS WOLVES DIG IN TO EARN A POINT AGAINST NEWCASTLE
Jose Sa -7
Commanding on set plays and made a couple of good saves when was called into action.
Ladislav Krejci – 6
A solid professional performance from Krejci bringing calm into the back line. Made a couple of crucial interceptions in the second half to prevent Elanga and Wissa getting through on goal.
Santi Bueno – 6
Another steady performance who alongside Krecji and Mosquera looks comfortable in this defensive line.
Mosquera – 7.5 (Man of the Match)
Popped up multiple times in the offensive box getting onto the end of crosses, a positive position without testing the Newcastle goalkeeper. At the other end always winning the ball back and when doing so finding positive passes to quickly progress the ball up the pitch.
Hugo.Bueno – 6.5
Defensively solid against tough opposition wingers, managed to get forwards a few occasions however unable to find the Wolves striker with his crosses on this occasion. Had the best opportunity for Wolves in the first half firing just over from the opposite wing.
Jackson Tchatchoua – 6
Defensively solid, didn’t do enough with the ball when moving forward often chose to come back rather than testing the opposition full backs.
Andre – 7
Absolutely everywhere battling with Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton. Winning the ball back and playing it off to players around him to move the ball forward. Unlucky to pick up a yellow card after a foul should’ve been called for Wolves.
Joao Gomes – 7 (off for Arias)
Also absolutely everywhere but much more progressive than his Brazilian counterpart. Was unable to find the final pass in a game which finished 0-0 neither teams offensive players made a difference.
Mateus Mane – 6
Not his sparkling best as we have seen the past few weeks but progressed the ball up the park well. Had one potential moment linking up with Larsen but unable to bring a fast ball into his control.
Hwang Hee Chan- 5 (off for R. Gomes)
Did okay, but was anonymous in comparison to other players on the pitch showed effort throughout.
Tolu Arokodare – 6 (off for Larsen)
Was making his presence known winning the ball from Jose Sa kicks throughout the game. Often seen fighting his opponent to get onto crosses which unfortunately didn’t always come to the big man.
The Subs:
Larsen (on 64th minute) – 6
Linked up well for one moment with Mane and had a good shot after a long run from Mosquera but was unable to make the difference to break the deadlock.
Jhon Arias (on 71st minute) – 6
Entered the pitch at a critical moment for Joao Gomes who had been everywhere. Managed to get into the faces of the Newcastle midfield and carried on Gomes work with similar minimal attacking output.
Rodrigo Gomes (on 85th minute) – 6
Not on the pitch long enough to make too much of an impact but in moments caused problems for his opposition number with pace on the counter attack.
A solid team performance all around needed more in the final third but against a side who qualified for the Champions League last season with a good strength in depth a point well earned.
