Newcastle then suffered an injury setback just before half time as Joe Willock went off and was replaced by Jeff Hendrick.
Wolves nearly doubled their lead when Trincao hit the crossbar after being set up by Hwang in the build-up.
Despite Wolves being on top, Newcastle equalised against the run of play. Substitute Hendrick scored from long range, catching Wolves out as José Sá scrambled back after the low shot from the edge of the area.
