Setting the scene
Wolves started the match in the relegation zone, knowing a win would take them out of it. West Ham United also had plenty at stake, as a defeat would increase pressure on manager David Moyes.
First half
Wolves began on the front foot and saw most of the ball. Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho controlled possession in midfield and kept play moving.
West Ham looked most dangerous on the counter, with Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio carrying the threat. Clear chances were limited, but Bowen did test Jose Sa with a low effort from the edge of the box.
Wolves’ best chance of the half fell to Matheus Cunha, who forced Lukasz Fabianski into a near post save. Podence and Moutinho also tried their luck from distance, but neither effort troubled the goalkeeper.
At the break, neither side had found a breakthrough.
Half time: Wolves 0 West Ham United 0
Second half
Wolves started the second half with more intensity, and it paid off quickly. Three minutes after the restart, Daniel Podence pounced on a loose ball and fired into the bottom corner to put Wolves ahead and lift the home crowd.
The goal gave Wolves confidence. Max Kilman and Nathan Collins were solid at the back, keeping the tempo up and limiting West Ham’s chances.
Wolves went close to a second when Neves hit a long range strike against the underside of the crossbar. From the rebound, Rayan Ait Nouri hit the post.
West Ham responded with attacking changes, and they nearly got back into the match. Said Benrahma forced Sa into a sharp save, and West Ham swung several crosses into the box, but they came to nothing.
Conclusion
Late on, Adama Traore had a chance to seal it, but Fabianski saved his effort in stoppage time. Raul Jimenez then thought he had made it 2-0 after chipping Fabianski, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.
Wolves held on to secure a vital win and send the home fans home happy.

Setting the scene
This match is remembered in tribute to Billy Bonds, who recently passed away. Bonds featured for West Ham United against Wolves, and this game remains a special memory of his career.
First half
Wolves fell behind to one of the strangest goals you will ever see. Geoff Pike struck a shot that Paul Bradshaw saved onto the bar. The ball spun back down, bounced, and somehow dropped into the net. A commentator at the time even called it a potential “goal of the season” contender. West Ham led 1-0.
Wolves almost responded when Kenny Hibbitt forced Mervyn Day into a save, pushing the ball out for a corner. Then Norman Bell went close after good work from Alan Sunderland, but his effort drifted narrowly wide.
West Ham doubled their lead on 36 minutes. Pike played the ball across, Trevor Brooking miss hit his shot, and it wrong footed the Wolves defence. Pop Robson was in the right place and finished into an open goal to make it 2-0.
Wolves pulled one back just before half time. After winning the ball back from a West Ham throw in, Geoff Palmer delivered an excellent cross and John Richards headed home. It was Richards’ 100th league goal, and it made the score 2-1 at the break.
Half time: West Ham United 2 Wolves 1
Second half
Wolves pushed for an equaliser and finally got it late on. A mistake in the West Ham back line gave them an opening, and Kenny Hibbitt struck from range to make it 2-2. Neither side could find a winner after that.
