andrew gives his opinions on player performance

JOSE SA

Commanded his own six yard box during a barrage of Newcastle set-pieces otherwise not much for Jose to do at Molineux, couldn’t do anything to get down to save the Newcastle equaliser.

MATCH RATING 7

NELSON SEMEDO

Very impressive defensive performance from Semedo who really didn’t allow Saint-Maximin room attacking and minimised Newcastle’s best attacking outlet. Possibly his most solid defensive performance for Wolves especially after picking up a Yellow Card midway through the first half when Saint-Maximin exposed Wolves back line in transition.

MATCH RATING 8

NATHAN COLLINS

Another solid performance from Collins who looks to be growing in confidence in a Wolves shirt, the developing partnership with Kilman a large positive for Wolves this Sunday afternoon. Rarely put a foot wrong and is improving his connection with Semedo with some passing sequences. Chris Wood was anonymous due to the Wolves central defensive display.

MATCH RATING 7

MAX KILMAN

Couldn’t do anything to prevent Newcastle’s goal, otherwise didn’t put a foot wrong and put in a solid defensive display. Confident on the ball and didn’t look in danger from any Newcastle players.

MATCH RATING 8

JONNY OTTO

Back to normal for Jonny following the game against Fulham at Molinuex a few weeks ago. He was consistent and battled well against Almiron. Didn’t put a foot wrong defensively maybe could improve his attacking sequences.

MATCH RATING 7

RUBEN neves

Solid performance from Wolves best player and the best player on the pitch today at Molineux. Scored Wolves only goal which was a trademark out the box finish. Whenever Ruben had the ball looked like he could initiate a progressive move. Commanded the midfield and broke down numerous Newcastle attacks.

MATCH RATING 9 & PLAYER OF THE MATCH

JOAO moutinho

A relatively quiet performance from Joao who just got the job at hand done with his central midfield partners. Similarly to the rest of the Wolves players had minimum attacking output and something to improve as the season progresses.

MATCH RATING 7

MATHEUS nunes

The Portugal international’s Molineux home Premier League debut was a positive performance with nice forward movement and some silky skills. His performance faded at the match went on with some sloppy passes and being too easily muscled off the ball, but overall lots to be excited about.

MATCH RATING 7

GONÇALO guedes

The best Wolves attacker on the pitch today provided the pass to Neves to launch Wolves into the lead. Provided a direct performance and looks like a real talent if we can get the ball up to him in attacking transitions.

MATCH RATING 7

PEDRO neto

A good direct performance from Neto unlucky not to have an assist after VAR ruled out a goal for a foul in the build up. Managed to get into good spaces but Wolves didn’t get the ball to any of their attacking options enough to truly have a large impact on the game.

MATCH RATING 7

RAUL JIMENEZ

A lot of running and work rate on his own up front but not much actual quality from the Mexican this sunny Sunday afternoon. Didn’t really have a chance of note to be discussed and as the second half went on often was not on the same wavelength as other Wolves attackers and midfielders.

MATCH RATING 6

SUBS

Daniel Podence – 6

Came on the pitch and can’t really think of anything he did, and can’t have had many touches of the ball. Didn’t get the ball to Podence for him to contribute.

Hwang Hee-Chan –

Poor from Hwang essentially giving Saint-Maximin the ball from a poor clearance to score the equaliser. Other than this didn’t do anything with the ball or offering anything going forward.

Dendoncker – N/A
