SEAN STANTON TONGUE IN CHEEK THOUGHTS ON THE THINGS WE LEARNT FROM WOLVES DEFEAT TO CRYSTAL PALACE
THINGS WE LEARNT BEFORE KICK OFF
1 – When the transfer window opened Wolves had a world class, world renowned manager (JLo)
They replaced him with Garry O’Neil (Sacked by Bournemouth)
2 – Wolves had three world class, world renowned midfielders (Neves, Nunes, Joao)
They replaced them with a French dude nobody had ever heard of and a guy who played in the Championship last year.
3– Wolves had two world renowned striker’s (Costa, Raul)
They replaced them with young Fabio (back from his loan with PSV in the Dutch league where he had mostly been used as a sub) and Sasa (still not fully fit after two ACL’s)
4 – Adama has been replaced by an 18 year old Paraguayan kid nobody had ever heard off.
5 – Coming in for Collins and Coady was a Uruguayan bloke who, yes you’ve guessed it, nobody had ever heard of.
6 – If you replace an X factor manager and X factor players with individuals nobody has ever heard of who you don’t have to pay as much money to, you will struggle (Unless you’re Brighton)
7 – If you spend the whole transfer window saying you have no money and can’t afford any additions and then you make a few signings nobody has ever heard of (who might turn out to be really shit) just before the window closes, the fans will be happy.
THINGS WE LEARNT AFTER THE MATCH
1– It’s time to bring Doc back. He’s more of a goal threat and a better defender than Nelson. I couldn’t believe he didn’t start after his performance on Tuesday.
2 – Little Daniel Podence is a far more dangerous player and more likely to score than both Fabio and Sarabia put together. Might be worth having a word with him and trying to get him to stay.
3 – OK we only got beat by one goal but Sa made three great saves today.
4 – With Lopetegui and Nunes gone Wolves are massively diminished.
Watch how Lopetegui greeted new signings. He put both his hands on their shoulders and looked them right in the eyes.
Watch how well Nunes got on with everyone in the Wolves training video’s.
Two massive characters who we thought would be ever present in the dressing room this season have gone.
I predict nothing but a dour struggle for survival.
The golden days under Nuno seem like a distant memory now. A lifetime ago.
The sun might be shining today but I see only dark clouds.
