NICK PARKES SHARES HIS PLAYER RATINGS FOLLOWING WOLVES DEFEAT TO ASTON VILLA

Sam Johnstone – 5

Continues to concede goals and another big standard performance. Not a keeper who will keep you in games

Rayan Ait Nouri – 5

Caught out of position on several occasions defensively, especially for Villa’s 3rd. He was unlucky not to score in the first half when his close range volley was deflected wide. Not a Premier League left back and picked up a childish booking.

Craig Dawson – 6

Played very well when Wolves were on top but as all our team, crumbled under the constant bombardment of Villa’s pressure. Not a lot he could have done for each goal.

Yerson Mosquera – 6

Similarly to Dawson, played well for an hour. Played in a wonderful through ball to Larsen in the first half and cleared off the line in the second. Unfortunately though, he’s picked up a serious injury and looks to be out for a while. A real shame as he’s growing into life as a Premier League centre back

Nelson Semedo – 4

Constantly getting caught out by not looking over his shoulder, had a tough game for the second week running. Seems off the pace and continues to make pointless fouls and picking up cheap bookings.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 4

Our left side seems to be a real problem at the moment as neither Bellegarde nor Hwang seem to want it. A non-existent performance and offered little going forward. Had opportunities to run at people but chose to slow it down and turn back.

Joao Gomes – 5

All 3 centre midfielders had similar games. Strong and dominate in the first half, meek and chasing shadows in the second. Gomes is having a mixed start to the season but the first half he impressed and looked his menacing self.

Andre – 5

Amazing first half. Really broke up play and won absolutely everything but faded in the second.

Mario Lemina – 5

Almost identical to Gomes, a good first half but non-existent in the second. Villa’s more attacking midfield in the second half were too much for Lemina and co. Could have done better to stop Konsa ghosting in to score Villa’s second.

Matheus Cunha – 4

Controversially low rating as he did score a wonderful goal and looks threatening in the first half but throughout the 90 minutes his attitude was shocking. Constantly throwing his hands around and complaining to his own players. Continued to be offside when it was easier to stay onside. Dawson even complained to GON about Cunha in the second half due to his lack of team effort. Wolves are going through a hard time and you need every player to rally and fight. Cunha did not fit that bill yesterday.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – 5

Quiet afternoon for the big number 9 apart from a through ball from Mosquera where his shot was saved. Needed more service from out wide.

GAME MANAGEMENT – 0

Wolves arguably had their best 45 of the season so far in the first half and we bossed Villa from early on but second half (again) was a worrying sight. We continued to play the ball out from the back despite the constant pressure from Villa’s dangerous attackers. It was clear to everyone watching what was coming yet nothing was done to change it. We look brittle and void of any real belief. Defensively naive and apart from Dawson, we lacked a commanding presence. Also, 6 yellow cards for the game shows a lack of control.

SUBS

Goncalo Guedes – 5 – can’t fault his effort but offered little up top. Had the chance to be in the 6 yard box when Cunha played in a wonderful ball late on but chose to roll around and complain to the ref (got back up as soon as the ball was cleared)

Santi Bueno – 4 – didn’t look comfortable at all. Caught out a few times and easily dispossessed. Mosquera will be missed.

Rodrigo Gomes – 5 – good to see him back playing and albeit he didn’t offer much in a very difficult period for Wolves, it is good to see him have a chance.

Tommy Doyle – 5 – fared the same as the other centre midfielders in the second half.
