TYLER PRICE SHARES HIS THOUGHTS FOLLOWING WOLVES 3-1 DEFEAT AT CHELSEA
Rayan Ait Nouri DefensivE struggles
In my opinion, Rayan should be pushed further upfield as his defensive work rates are poor and he’s too attack-minded, which resulted in him having to swap sides in the first half because Madueke was constantly darting at him. It was completely one-way traffic.
Corners
This resulted in a very scrappy equaliser, but we have a tendency to never beat the first man at corners. Cunha hit the side netting twice from corners, and it’s so frustrating to watch. Never beating the first man is a recurring issue; it always happened with Moutinho too.
Joao Gomes
This kid is incredible. He now drives forward more instead of just being a pivot and working defensively, and he has improved offensively too. When he dribbles, the ball is glued to him, he shields it well, and he got the better of Dewsbury-Hall.
Relegation…
It was a really tough watch. Terrible defending again, with a very open back line. Sa was caught between two minds for Chelsea’s third—should he come off his line or stay put—and it cost us. Rayan again cannot defend well enough. Agbadou is incredible and a very good signing, but we need one more. We cannot settle for just one signing this month; we are in dire need of at least two more players.
Vitor’s comments on Cunha
For the first goal, it was just laughable how it went in. Cunha’s laziness? Just poor jogging back. It was clear how high the line was, yet he was just jogging back at his own pace and played Tosin on a plate. His work rates need a lot of improvement, and I thought he was poor. He seems very slow, but it says a lot that he somehow looked better than most of the Wolves team. A poor Cunha still looks better than the rest of the squad, and it’s frustrating that we rely so much on his standout performances. His body language was also poor today; when passes didn’t come his way, he threw his arms in the air and went crazy.
Chelsea’s one-way traffic
The only time Wolves seemed to grasp the game was during the 10-15 minute spell before and after our equaliser. We seemed direct, and the fans were behind the team. We genuinely had fight injected back into the team, and it looked like we would put in a good second-half display if we maintained the momentum. But not quite! We fell apart, and it was all Chelsea in the second half. We were toothless in attack, and Chelsea were hardly threatened. Larsen tested Sanchez a few times but shot straight at him, and Cunha had the best effort, but yet again it was saved. It’s so frustrating how easily Chelsea made it look against us today while we struggled with the basics.
