Wolves fans share their thoughts following an important win against Bournemouth at The Vitality Stadium.

Craig Hickey

A massive win today, a performance where we dug in and got the job done. I know we missed chances but read that again….missed chances…..we are creating them and that’s the point. The stats for the second half, 61% possession and 6 efforts at goal to Bournemouth’s 1…..that takes some doing.

Tactical changes, substitutions at the right time with the right players, Vitor Pereira has certainly started to show his class. I was a bit nervous listening to it on the radio whilst cleaning my cars but I was confident we would grind out the last 15 minutes of the game and no scratches were made during the 6 minutes of added time. This team has changed it’s attitude, endeavour and determination to get out of this situation. I really believe if we can keep these players together and add another quality striker, we can be right up there in the top 8. It’s all about now though and today shows that we have picked up where we left off last week.

We have a run of 5 games in the league now which will provide us with an opportunity to get close to the magic 34 points that I feel will be enough to stay up. Today the players and staff have shown us that they care and want to give it their all. I do like to be beside the seaside……even though I wasn’t today.

Vitor made the correct team selection after last week’s heroic effort at Anfield.

A daunting ask to come to Bournemouth and get anything.

Not only did Wolves come away after one of the most disciplined performances with three points. But they did it in such an accomplished style.

Bournemouth rightly had a player Red Carded for a  dangerous tackle but they continued to foul throughout the game. Not one Wolves player retaliated to the constant fouls.

Every player knew their job. Support was their if the first tackle didn’t stop the Bournemouth advance.

Jose Sa dealt with every cross. Any long throws or corners or set pieces Wolves dealt with comfortably. You forgot how bad our defending had been previously. Even without Agbadou, injured with a hamstring, Bueno deputised and even after a booking early on for his first foul he grew into the game and alongside Toti and Doherty coped with all Bournemouths attacks.
A lovely move allowed Cunha to control and chip in from ten yards.

In the second half Wolves controlled the game making the extra player count. Bournemouth struggled to get the ball at times. More fouls and frustration from Bournemouth didn’t put Wolves off.

After six minutes of injury time the whistle went and a euphoric response from both players and travelling fans greeted a precious three points. Well deserved.
Five point clear of the bottom three and Fulham coming to Molineux in Midweek!

Great weekend.

What Pereira has done to turn this club around in the space of 10 weeks is nothing short of phenomenal. The whole mentality has shifted.

An invaluable 3 points. 5 points clear of both Ipswich and Leicester, and the prospect of pulling away from trouble once and for all is now a real possibility. That’s what wins against teams like Villa and Bournemouth will do for you when the standard of the bottom 3 is so low. We have levels of quality they don’t, we have enough to complete with anyone, and Pereira is bringing that out in spades.

Not a stellar second half by any means but we dug in and, in truth, we never looked too uncomfortable. Workmanlike and professional, which shouldn’t be taken for granted at all given where we were just 2 months ago; a petulance infused mess that looked to be in an inevitable death spiral towards relegation. Now, somehow, we look strong, stable, settled, harmonious. Spirited.

Good to see Strand Larsen back and looking fit, he worked hard up top. Djiga and Lima in particular with superb cameos too. Doc outstanding throughout, my man of the match.

Vitor vindicated in his decision to take Joao Gomes off, clearly learned a lot from that Arsenal game. His absence second half definitely affected our fluency a bit overall, but the risk was probably too high in keeping him on. It was the sensible call and big calls like that are what maketh the man[ager]- and I’ve said it from day one…

We have a good one here.

Time to start looking up.. United, we’re coming for you.

In Vitor we trust. Now and forever.

A big game for us today I was hopeful we would keep up the momentum we have gained over the last games!!

The game started with their free flowing football but we soon got into the game and went toe to toe with them in every department. They had their breaks but no clear cut chances whereas we had a couple of really good chances. Semedo hit the post and then Kepa pulled off a great save from a shot from Bellegarde. Only down side so far was Bueno getting a yellow card.

On the half hour mark their centre back went straight through Ait Nouri in a tackle…surely a red card but the referee gave a yellow. Low and behold VAR got involved and told the referee to look at the screen and he overturned his original decision and gave the red. Bournemouth were furious ….could we make the extra man count? It didn’t take long for us to get the answer. That man again Cunha scored with a great shot..

Gomes went into a tackle and the Bournemouth fans didn’t like it he got a yellow but they were calling for VAR to overturn it but no chance .

Second half Bueno was substituted for Djiga and Strand Larssen  came on for Gomes  with Bellegarde dropping back into midfield obviously as they were both on yellow cards.

They came at us quite strong for the first ten minutes but we weathered the storm and the game went the same way as first half with us having the better chances.

We were playing so well as a team again . Cunha who had yet again been superb was substituted for Doyle but whatever they threw at us we dealt with. The 6 minutes of extra time were a bit nail biting but we stood firm and finished 1-0 and could easily have been 2 or 3.

An absolutely massive 3 points and with Ipswich losing gave us a 5 point gap.
Well done to Vitor we have looked so much more positive the last 3 or 4 games. Keep it up against Fulham on Tuesday.

I thought Sa had a good game today and so did Cunha but my man of the match was Bellegarde who played really well in every position he was asked to.

Today marks the start of a six-game run where we need to secure maximum points to pull away from the bottom three in our fight for survival in the Premier League.

We started on the back foot, with Bournemouth having plenty of the ball and dominating possession. We faced an early setback with a yellow card in our backline, which was disappointing as it put us under pressure for the rest of the match.

However, we then had a good spell, causing problems for the home side and creating chances of our own to take the lead. There was a crucial moment when the home team was reduced to ten men, giving us the opportunity to exploit their weaknesses.

I noticed that the pitch caused some issues; it seemed overwatered, preventing us from finding our rhythm. Despite this, we took the lead through our talisman, Matheus Cunha, who scored with the help of Munetsi on his first start for the club. They linked up well during the move.

After scoring, we fell back and didn’t play like a team against ten men. We went into half-time with a lead, but we needed to attack with more intensity and press for a second goal to secure the win. Vitor made a good decision to take off Joao Gomes, who would likely have been sent off if he stayed on. Smart management there.

The second half was messy for both teams, with both guilty of missed chances. We weren’t moving the ball as quickly as we did in the first half, which is something we need to fix. Pedro Lima and Munetsi had chances to score a second goal, but we managed to keep our unbeaten run going at the Vitality Stadium.

It was a tense game for us. We had to stay compact at times, but Vitor is getting us to the right levels when it matters. We need to keep this momentum going. A five-point gap has opened up from the bottom three, but we must keep pushing and aim to extend that lead in our next home game next week. We have to keep believing.
