Wolves academy goalkeepers James Storer and Lewys Benjamin have signed contract extensions and left on loan for the 2025/26 season. LOUIE LEFEVRE BRINGS YOU ALL THE LATEST NEWS
A duo of academy goalkeepers have left Wolves on loan this week as Lewys Benjamin and James Storer each head out after signing contract extensions.
Storer had two fantastic spells away last season, spending the first half of the season at Darlaston Town (1874) in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands and helped to lift the side into an impressive 7th place finish. He then moved up the pyramid in January when he joined Chester to replace recalled Manchester United loanee Elyh Harrison. Chester ended the season in 4th place in the National League North and qualified for the play-offs. They were unfortunately eliminated in the semi-final by Kidderminster Harriers. Now, Storer makes the move to Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship for what will be a new test for the 20-year-old shotstopper. ‘The Ton’ finished 6th in the Championship last time around but were only 7 points off of the Premiership play-off quarter-final. They will no doubt hope that the addition of Storer on a season-long loan may be the difference maker to bridge that gap. He has already made his debut, keeping a clean sheet in the Scottish League Cup during a 3-0 win over Stenhousemuir. Storer’s deal was set to expire this summer before he put pen to paper on a one-year extension.
Meanwhile, Chester have once more turned to Wolves to replace Storer as they have signed Lewys Benjamin on loan for the duration of the season. Benjamin spent the first-half of last season as James Collins’ number one in the U21s. In January he completed his first loan move to Stourbridge in the Southern League Premier Division Central. ‘The Glassboys’ ended the campaign in 9th place and now Benjamin makes the step up to the National League South in pursuit of a promotion. Benjamin will also be balancing his time at the Deva Stadium with his impressive international career. The 18-year-old has already made his Wales U21 debut in June against Norway. Prior to this Benjamin was also selected for a training camp with the Wales senior team in May, a slightly similar feeling to the start of last season when he spent pre-season with the Wolves first-team in Marbella. Benjamin has also signed a new deal with Wolves before completing the move, though it is unclear how long this extension is for.
Good luck to James and Lewys as they get ready for a new season in fresh surroundings.
