watch our reaction to wolves win against gillingham in the carabao cup
WOLVES 2-0 GILLINGHAM
This match was the start of a new era with Julen Lopetegui taking charge of his first match at Molineux. The Wolves faithful turned out in their droves to witness his first game with hopes that Julen could work miracles. However, the same old issues were on display and whilst Wolves played some nice football they struggled to breakdown bottom of League two Gillingham, who clearly hoped to hold on to a 0-0 and succeed on penalties.
Wolves dominated possession but struggled to break down an organised, compact Gillingham team. Finally, a break through came when a penalty was awarded when Hwang was manhandled in the box and our ever reliable penalty taker Raul Jimenez slotted the ball nonchalantly into the net.
Wolves could relax a little and with Gillingham needing a goal the game opened up a little. Air-Nouri scored on the 90th minute from a Hwang counter attack he laid it on a plate for Rayan to slot home.
Wolves will find out who they face in the next round on Thursday evening, with the selections being made after the Liverpool and Manchester City tie with the fixtures taking place week commencing 9th January.
