DAVE PORTER LOOKS AT THE THINGS WE LEARNT FROM WOLVES V BOURNEMOUTH AS WOLVES CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE

1. BORING VAR

Off the ball, zero impact on the goal. Is it that we have received so many bad decisions, that we have lost objectivity? Does everyone else see what we see? Does anyone else have decisions so persistently and relentlessly go against them?  That goal is given for anyone else isn’t it? What’s the point? It is not football any-more.

2. Boring – Injuries and squad size

We all know this. I have nothing new to add to the conversation. Players are coming back but they are miles off the pace. In real terms the injured players are probably a few weeks away, but they are being thrust into action through zero alternatives available. Everyone knows what the reasons are, everyone knows where they stand on the issue. There is nothing more to be said.

3. BORING - BEING OUTPLAYED AT HOME

At what point do we say this is a problem. Every club has injuries, every club has problems. There isn’t really an excuse for being absolutely pumped by Bournemouth for 70 mins. Wolves rallied in the final stages even before the sending off, but they were comfortably beaten regardless of VAR. What was more concerning was that Bournemouth didn’t seem to have to do very much to carve Wolves open. When down to Ten men, Wolves still struggled to do anything with the numerical supremacy. It almost felt like a leveller between the teams, rather than giving the home team the advantage.

4. BORING - THE END OF THE SEASON

The players have over achieved, they have been over worked, they have made us proud. The end of the season though cannot come soon enough. Everyone needs a break. We must be reflective and say that there are worse ways to end a season, but it will end with mid table anonymity and it could have been so much more.

5. BORING - THEPREMIER LEAGUE

There is something rotten in the Premier League. The product itself is at significant risk. The conversations tonight will be around whether this is really something that people actually want to continue to do with their time and money. This is an entertainment industry and the entertainment is being ruined in the most vicious way possible. It’s more than just a goal being ruled out. The moment between goal and celebration should always have been held as sacrosanct. They are the moments that people endlessly pay money and give their time to watch. It is to savour that specific  instant where nothing else matters. Where all the rest of life’s troubles and woes, are forgotten for those few precious seconds of mindless euphoria. That is the drug that all football fans crave. That is why fans go to extraordinary lengths and sacrifice to support their team  If that is no longer available, then genuinely what is the point. People do not pay to be bored.

ARTICLE BY DAVE PORTER

Wolverhampton born, East Sussex based supporter. Old enough to have seen the descent to the bottom, young enough to not have experienced the days my friend. Not many Wolves fans to celebrate or commiserate with round these parts, so had to find an outlet to discuss the enormous highs, crushing lows and share the frustrations that only come with following Wolves.
