We’re coming to you live from beautiful (and definitely real) palm-tree-filled Morocco, tea in hand and plenty of Wolves chat to cover. We’ve just wrapped up another week of Premier League predictions, plus there’s loads to talk about when it comes to the club, from the latest on Gary O’Neil to Matt Hobbs causing a bit of a stir. Let’s not waste any time!
Trip update: Morocco’s great, the backdrop’s not a green screen (promise), and we’re struggling with slightly slower-than-usual WiFi. But Wolves isn’t slow at all this week, so let’s dive in.
Premier League Predictions: Who’s Winning?
Last week, Team Dave secured a long-awaited victory, and guess what? Wolves won too! Coincidence? Well, maybe. But after the slow start this season, those small wins start feeling like turning points.
Now, the real question is: who took the crown this week? Was it Team Emma or Team Dave? Drums roll… It was Team Dave again! He landed some key predictions—like calling both the Manchester United and Liverpool scores spot on. Meanwhile, Emma got the results right but missed out on those crucial scorelines. This puts Dave in a better position, with just an 21-point gap to catch up (no big deal, right?).
It’s been tight, but Dave is slowly inching towards closing that gap. Could the Wolves also be gaining momentum? Let’s find out.
Gary O’Neil’s Future — Is It Time?
This is the hot topic. Everyone wants to know: how are we really feeling about Gary O’Neil? If you’ve been watching the games, you’ll know it’s been hard to judge. Yes, we got that win last week, but does that mean all is forgiven? Emma feels it’s inevitable he’ll go.
She’s got a point. When Matt Hobbs initially spoke about O’Neil joining, the club’s goal was clear—challenge for Europe. Fast forward, and now we’re just hoping to stay up. Quite a shift, isn’t it?
We’ve had some decent results, but there’s no denying we’ve thrown away winning positions in multiple games. O’Neil’s tactics have been questioned, and while there’s been a few improvements, consistency might not be his middle name. Both the Fulham and Bournemouth games coming up will be critical. If results don’t go our way, the pressure will mount, and maybe it’ll be time to look elsewhere.
Matt Hobbs’ Tunnel Incident
Changing gears: Matt Hobbs got himself into hot water recently after some “choice words” directed towards the officials post-match. After a controversial decision in the Man City match, Hobbs reportedly expressed his frustration by saying the referee “couldn’t wait” to give that goal—with a few expletives thrown in for good measure. Who could blame him for being emotional in the heat of the moment, right?
But, he’s the sporting director. With that title comes responsibility. If Hobbs didn’t swear, it might’ve just been seen as a passionate response. Unfortunately, the swearing probably tipped the situation over the edge and landed him with a penalty—a £7,000 fine and a Stadium ban. He’s entitled to frustration, but directors are supposed to set the tone. Regardless, a part of the fanbase will still quietly cheer him on for saying what they were all thinking!
Wolves’ Defence: What Needs Fixing?
Let’s face it—Wolves’ defence has been shaky at best. It’s become clear that one of our most pressing needs in the January transfer window is a proper centre-back. We’re too light in that department, with only three fit senior defenders, and it’s showing on the pitch. Premier League experience is what we need, not someone who “might” be ready in a year.
That backline needs depth, and it needs it fast. A left-back wouldn’t go amiss either, considering we’ve had to shuffle players around to fill in those defensive gaps. The January window will be pivotal if we want to see Wolves in a more comfortable league position come May.
Managerial Issues: Should We Stick or Twist?
Lots of chatter around whether we could (or should) change our manager soon. Names like David Moyes and Graham Potter have been floated. Moyes would probably keep us safe, but the style might be uninspiring, leaving us in the familiar “survival mode.” Potter, on the other hand, could bring something exciting to the table—though whether he’d take the job remains the question.
Others suggest managers like Sérgio Conceição from Porto, said to be a “Nuno 2.0,” which would be welcomed by most Wolves fans. But for now, O’Neil has a few more games to prove his worth. Fulham and Bournemouth will be his acid test.
Ruben Neves’ Surprise Visit
A little morale boost came in the form of club legend Ruben Neves visiting the dressing room during the Southampton game. Maybe that’s what spurred us on to that crucial win? His presence on the pitch at half-time lifted not only the crowd but perhaps also the team. It’s always good to have that kind of positive energy around to keep spirits high.
Conclusion
With plenty of focus on O’Neil’s position and a few rumblings behind the scenes, it’s clear that Wolves’ journey this season is far from smooth. But with critical fixtures ahead, reinforcements needed in defence, and a strong fanbase behind the club—as always—there’s hope things could shift for the better.
Exciting times or worrying times? We’ll know soon enough. Make sure you stay tuned for updates on Friday’s exclusive show, as more Wolves goodness is coming your way. In the meantime—Up the Wolves!
