Verified: What Really Happened with Matheus Cunha After Chelsea v Wolves

Matheus Cunha has found himself at the centre of controversy following Wolves’ 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, with fans and journalists heavily discussing the striker’s behaviour, body language, and performance. Adding fuel to the fire are rumours about his contract and potential transfer to Arsenal. Here’s a breakdown of the events, clarifications from footage, and an update on his contract negotiations.

Last Night’s Fallout: Poor Performance and Misunderstandings

No one would describe Wolves’ performance at Stamford Bridge as their finest. The team looked lacklustre and only showed glimpses of effort in a short 10-minute spell. Cunha, who has often been a key figure for the team, had an uncharacteristically quiet night – far below his usual standard. Understandably, this sparked conversations about his body language on the pitch, especially considering the swirling rumours about his future.

Local journalist Liam Keen reported that Cunha walked straight down the tunnel after the match without acknowledging the travelling fans. Many Wolves supporters, frustrated with the result and feeling disregarded, latched onto this claim. However, Cunha strongly refuted the account on Twitter, accusing Keen of spreading misinformation.

Video Evidence and the Real Story

To clear things up, footage from the end of the game emerged, showing that Cunha’s account of events was accurate. While it’s true he was among the first to leave the pitch, the video clearly shows him clapping the Wolves fans. Before heading off, he also stopped to speak with Chelsea players, the referee, and others on the field.

While mistakes happen, this one caused unnecessary division within the fanbase, with some directing anger towards Cunha. The video serves as proof that he did acknowledge the fans – albeit briefly – before exiting the pitch. It’s a good reminder of how quickly narratives can spiral out of control without full context.

Was Cunha 100% Fit?

An important factor to consider is Cunha’s fitness. Wolves manager Vitor Pereira had mentioned in Friday’s press conference that Cunha had been dealing with flu. Although he recovered enough to start the Chelsea game, flu symptoms can linger, draining energy and affecting performance. Anyone who’s gone through a nasty bout of flu can relate – pushing through 90 minutes at Premier League intensity must take a toll.

This could explain his less-than-stellar body language and perhaps a quicker-than-usual trip back to the dressing room. When you’re not feeling your best, sticking around for longer than necessary probably isn’t a priority.

Ongoing Contract Talks: What’s the Latest?

Cunha’s contract situation has been another hot topic among Wolves fans. Reports surfaced weeks ago suggesting he was close to agreeing on an extension that would include a release clause and better terms. However, no official announcement has been made, which has caused growing concern.

Some have interpreted the delay as evidence of an impending January transfer, with Arsenal reportedly interested in the Brazilian striker. Others believe it’s simply a matter of ironing out final details. Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano recently stated there are still discussions ongoing but didn’t suggest the deal was off the table. Until the contract is signed, speculation will remain, and it will undoubtedly affect both Cunha and the fans.

Looking Ahead: Time to Move On

For now, Wolves fans will hope for an end to the drama and a focus on getting back to winning ways. With the contract talks hanging over him and rumours swirling, it’s easy to see how Cunha might be affected mentally. However, a strong performance in the next match against Arsenal could put some of these concerns to rest.

Whatever happens off the pitch, Wolves need everyone firing on all cylinders if they want to climb the table. As for Cunha and the fans, perhaps this serves as a valuable lesson about not jumping to conclusions too quickly.

Conclusion

Matheus Cunha’s night at Chelsea has been the subject of intense scrutiny, but the evidence shows there’s more to the story than initial reports suggested. While his performance and fitness may have raised questions, the video footage clears him of claims that he ignored Wolves’ travelling supporters.

The situation highlights how narratives can snowball when key details are missed, and it also underscores the need for clarity in moments like these. For both Cunha and Wolves, the sooner contract issues are resolved, the sooner everyone can turn their attention back to the one thing that matters most – football. With another big test on the horizon against Arsenal, now’s the perfect opportunity to move on and make a statement.

Humans make mistakes and unless something is psychologically wrong they learn from them and adjust, this has happened before with liam and some of his tweets are well above his station.

I think the young man needs a reality check.

What do people want? This guy has carried the team all season and must be totally frustrated that a team he loves sells their best players and what left is very poor relegation fodder. A few players well the odd game but no consistency. We bought kids for the future we need men now. We bought cheaper players who aren’t up to standard. The old guard are the old quard and need resting or moving on. The guy has had flu for gods sake!. To question where is head is at is so unjust and if he moves on next season good luck to him. Maybe just maybe the money will allow us to get promoted after being relegated cos at the moment we have no chance only if fans players and the local press stick together.
