wolves v leeds - 23rd October 2021, elland road

The 5th Meeting Wolves v Leeds took place at Elland Road on the 23rd October 2021.

The opening stages of the game was all Leeds with a lively crowd that was all and truly up for it. Romain Saiss cleared an off target header from Rodrigo and also two corners early on from Raphinha. Then it was Wolves turn to attack Leeds. Their first shot on target was when Semedo got down the right hand side, Leeds were in trouble and Raul Jimenez forced a ricochet that fell to  Hwang who immediately guided the ball into the net with his outside right foot to make it 1-0 to Wolves.

It was a very good first half of football neither of the goalies had any real action to contend with until near the end of the half when Max Kilman headed over the back post from a cross by Adama Traore and Leeds had the final chances of the first half where Mateusz Klich had a shot that didn’t trouble Jose Sa and Jack Harrison hit a shot wide at the near post.

Half Time Leeds 0 -1 Wolves

Second Half started with Wolves needing a 2nd goal to try and make the game safe but they couldn’t find an early one.  Chances for Rayan Ait Nouri which stung the palms of Meslier and Jimenez curled a simple effort into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Then Leeds started to take control of the game with Sa keeping Wolves in the game dealing with a shot by Gelhardt which he tipped over the bar after Joao Moutinho gave the ball away.

Wolves had more chances in the game once Daniel Podence came on a substitute in the game. Daniel produced a shot but was straight at the goalkeeper and Moutinho had a free kick which went over the bar.

But then there was some late drama when Wolves gave away a penalty. Gelhardt got the wrong side of Semedo who had switched position to the left side with the pair ending in a tangle of legs. Rodrigo put the ball on the spot on 4 minutes added time sending Sa the wrong way.

Wolves were controlling the game and had more chances to extend the lead from Jimenez, Podence and Jonny with Stuart Dallas and Meslier denying the three of them.  Then in the 11th Minute of Injury time Podence laid off a ball to Trincao and he picked his spot and curled a shot in the corner through a legs of a Leeds defender for his first goal of the season in the premier league.
