IN AN INTERVIEW WITH O JOGO RUBEN NEVES HAS SPOKEN ABOUT HIS ENORMOUS AFFECTION FOR WOLVES
Ruben Neves spent six years at Wolverhampton Wanderers before moving to Al Hilal last summer. He has been a key player for his new Middle East club this season, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 28 games.
Speaking to O Jogo, the former Wolves midfielder expressed his enjoyment of life in Saudi Arabia and his desire to stay for at least another two years. Neves, a Portugal international, joined Wolves from FC Porto in 2017 when they were in the Championship. During his time at Molineux, he made 253 appearances, scored 30 goals, and assisted 13 times.
When asked about his legacy in England, Neves stated his wish to return to Molineux as a fan. He fondly recalled his time at Wolves, praising the club, the city, and the people he worked with.
Neves revealed that he stays connected with his former teammates, especially his Portuguese compatriots at Wolves like Pedro Neto, Nélson Semedo, and José Sá. He believes their success at Wolves benefits not only the club but also the Portuguese national team.
Currently, Wolves sit in ninth place in the table, trailing fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur by seven points. Neves continues to follow Wolves closely and is pleased with their performances this season.
RUBEN NEVES
“I think I did a good job at Wolverhampton. It was six very good and happy years. I have enormous affection for the club, which is the one I have followed most since I came here, along with Porto,”
“I had a lot of affection for the players, for the people who work there, for the city… I often tell my wife that, if I have a longer break, I want to go back there to feel the stadium and the people. I was very loved.”
“Pedro Neto is one of the people I talk to the most. I have a lot of contact with him. Him, Nélson Semedo, José Sá… They’re friends we don’t lose. I follow almost every Wolves game and I’m very happy with what they’ve been doing. They’re all in great shape, which is good for them, for the club and for Portugal”
It’s fair to say that from a Wolves fan perspective the feeling is mutual and there will always be great love for Ruben Neves and his family.
