CHRIS HUMPHRIES REPORTS ON WOLVES BEATING BURNLEY 1-0
Game started very passively with really nothing to report for twenty minutes, Wolves seemed to lack urgency and were conceding possession every time they had a goal kick, finally after 20 minutes a long kick taken by Bentley and the ball broke to Hwang who found Sarabia whose shot was deflected then tipped over for the first corner to Wolves. The corner was abysmal much like Wolves play so far.
Semedo broke well down the wing and crossed for Sarabia who is playing well, he fired a difficult effort over.
Wolves are starting to find space now in the Burnley half but aren’t making use of it well with half an hour gone.
Burnley make a sub as Koleosho is replaced on 35 mins by Gudmondsson, this will be a disappointment for the Burnley fans.
Semedo combines with Sarabia to break down the wing and Burnley somehow manage to head the ball back to their own keeper in somewhat fortunate manner.
Burnley put Wolves under pressure and win the ball back just outside the box. A cross is played to Rodriguez who looks certain to score, but Bentley gets down brilliantly. The ball then falls to Burnley captain Brownhill, whose first-time effort is heading towards the bottom corner, but the Wolves goalkeeper gets down low again to this time tip the strike around the post. Brilliant double save from Bentley!
Then Burnley work the ball free and Bentley makes a block and parries the ball wide for a corner .
Wolves press but are doing it very gingerly, then Sarabia makes a break into space which allows Wolves to break forward and the ball breaks from left to right across the box to Hwang who tucks it away 1-0 to Wolves who have been pretty dull thus far 44 mins gone.
Good work this time sees Sarabia (again) find Lemina who wins a corner 3 and a half minutes into added time but for the second time his corner delivery is very poor, my only criticism of his first half performance.
Second half had started well for Wolves the ball is being moved quicker and Semedo and Bueno are having great success and Sarabia is at the centre of everything. There aren’t many chances coming from the play but Wolves are on top and Burnley are clocking up the yellow cards, a second goal is definitely needed.
Bueno breaks forward to be fouled by the Burnley player and another card is shown. Sarabia takes the free kick and hits it well toward the top corner but the keeper reaches it with his finger tips.
With 15 minutes to go that second goal is needed.
Burnley are pressing well now, the second goal hasn’t come, Wolves start making changes, Sarabia comes off for Bellegard and Bueno is fouled in a decent position and is replaced by Doherty. The resulting free kick sees Dawson at the far post unmarked but his ball back across or mis-hit shot goes back across goal and no-one can get on the end of it.
The referee indicates 3 minutes of added time which despite Burnley pressing comes to an end.
Overall a well won three points, not helped by Burnley’s approach to the game, I would like to see us put these teams to sword just for once!
Team rating 6.5
Man of The Match For me the only player who harried chased and pressed for the time he was on the pitch was Sarabia.
