Wolves opened the scoring when a cross by Streete was only cleared by the Bournemouth defence to Downing, who put Wolves ahead from the edge of the box, making it 1-0. This was Wolves’ 6,000th football league goal.

Paskin had a chance to extend the Wolves lead, but his shot went wide of the Bournemouth goal. Bournemouth had a chance to score with Lawrence, but his volley went over the bar, with the goalkeeper hardly troubled.

Downing picked up the ball and crossed it towards the Bournemouth goal. The defenders missed the ball at the far post, allowing Dennison to fire it into the back of the net, extending Wolves’ lead to 2-0 just before half-time.

Half Time: Wolves 2 Bournemouth 0

Wolves started the second half with Bournemouth trying to get a goal back. The Wolves defence cleared their lines only as far as Shearer, the Bournemouth substitute, who hit a 35-yard dipping volley past Kendall in the Wolves goal, making it 2-1.

Wolves responded by moving to the other end of the pitch. From a corner, Mutch, who was unmarked, scored to restore Wolves’ two-goal lead, making it 3-1 to the home side.
