LIAM BERRY GIVES HIS PLAYER RATINGS FOR WOLVES V FOREST

Wolves won their second league game of the season against Nottingham Forest thanks to a steady if not spectacular performance.

Here are my player ratings for this fixture:

JOSE SA - 9

The Portuguese shot-stopper had a great game, commanding his penalty area well and, despite the wrist injury he has been playing with, he proved a standout performer to help register his fourth clean sheet of the season.  His excellent afternoon was capped off with a penalty save – making it two out of two so far – to keep all three points.

JONNY OTTO - 5

At times, Jonny looked shaky in possession and he still hasn’t been at his best this season.  Although he looked better in this game overall, he probably still has to work to do to get back to the player we know he can be.

MAX KILMAN - 7

Without his partner in crime Nathan Collins for the past three games, Kilman has had a vital part to play. He was great in possession and had a header denied by the woodwork in the first half. Seems to be adapting to the four-at-the-back this season very nicely. A strong performance.

TOTI GOMES - 5

Toti had a shaky first half, he was caught in possession on a few occasions whilst slicing a clearance over his own bar in the second for the corner which led to Forest’s penalty. However, he was solid defensively and helped the team to a clean sheet and will continue to pick up vital experience being in and around the team.

RAYAN AIT-NOURI - 5

Being brought back into the side for this fixture, Ait Nouri was a great attacking outlet – however, his defensive contributions do sometimes balance this out. On a few occasions Ait Nouri held on to the ball for too long, and his decision-making in the final third can be questioned. Still a threat going forward.

RUBEN NEVES - 7

Neves had a strong performance, scoring the decisive penalty and giving Wolves all three points, whilst also leading by example barely putting a foot wrong.  Still sometimes seems to be on edge discipline-wise with his words to referees but has been on top form this season.  His goal sees himself and Daniel Podence joint top goalscorers and Wolves’ only players to find the back of the net in the league this season.

MATHEUS NUNES - 6

At times today, Matheus was linking up really well with the attackers, but like others, there were times when his decision-making in the final third was not at its best. Needs to learn from the incident when he gave away the penalty which could have cost Wolves the three points.

JOAO MOUTINHO - 6

The Portuguese veteran rarely put a foot wrong.  It wasn’t a stellar Moutinho performance but he kept things ticking over nicely. Even started coaching the players when he was substituted off. A sign for the future?

ADAMA TRAORE - 6

Adama played a massive part in Wolves’ transition from defence to attack, and his lightning pace gives the team an edge whenever he is on the pitch. However, there were times when his crossing decision was poor, a point which I’m sure Diego Costa agrees with judging by some of his reactions.  A positive performance for Traore though, after his early season injury troubles.

DIEGO COSTA - 6

Speaking of which, Costa didn’t have much to do today. I’m basing this rating on what he gave to the team, because he was a vocal point and gave Wolves something to aim at, whilst holding the ball up very well. His aggression and eagerness are something Wolves have lacked in the penalty area, and Costa brings that.  Winding up Dean Henderson also got the crowd more involved in the game.

DANIEL PODENCE - 8

I thought Podence had a great game, definitely up there with one of his best performances this season. He got Wolves up the pitch and used his tricky feet to skip past players on multiple occasions. Some nice flicks here and there and was excellent with his distribution. Great game for Podence.

SUBS

Boubacar Traore – 6

Nice one Liam. Keep writing about the things you love, or even like. I’ve made a good living out of it for almost 40 years. You can too. Better than working for a living. Best of luck mate. Up the wolves
