FINLEY SMITH REPORTS ON WOLVES 2-0 DEFEAT TO ARSENAL AT MOLINEUX

Wolves’ side: Sa, S.Bueno, Kilman, Toti, H.Bueno, Gomes, Traore, Doyle, Chirewa, Hwang.

Arsenal’s side: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabreil, Kiwior, Rice, Havertz, Odegaard, Saka, Trossard, Jesus. 

Wolves coming into this game making 4 changes amidst a whole raft of injuries.

Wolves kick off the game, and Arsenal start strongly with their first shot on target within the first 2 minutes. However, Sa makes a comfortable save. Arsenal maintain possession. Wolves gradually begin to assert themselves in the game, making it tough for Arsenal. Joao Gomes takes a shot at goal, but it’s deflected onto the post by Raya. With a small squad today, Wolves fans wonder if they can pull off a surprise against Arsenal, who have had some chances but fail to convert. Declan Rice keeps missing shots down the near left side of the post. Wolves get their first free-kick in the 28th minute, but they can’t find the back of the net. In the 34th minute, Kilman fouls Havertz, causing concern among Wolves fans, but Kilman receives only a yellow card.

Approaching half-time, Wolves manage to keep the score at 0-0, giving hope until Trossard hits the post and scores from the right-hand corner. Wolves hope to reach half-time with a 0-0 score but fall short.

Overall not a bad first half.

HALF TIME WOLVES 0 ARSENAL 1

Arsenal kicked off the second half strongly, passing the ball around and keeping possession. Wolves struggled to make an impact, finding it hard to mount any attacks. It didn’t look like Wolves would score. Despite being 1-0 down, the stadium was buzzing!

In the 52nd minute, Arsenal got their first corner of the game but couldn’t capitalise on it. Wolves fans grew frustrated with the number of free kicks the referee awarded to Arsenal. It wasn’t until the 70th minute that Wolves started putting pressure on the Arsenal defence, but Arsenal kept clearing their attempts, frustrating Wolves. In the 75th minute, Wolves got their first corner, but Arsenal cleared it away.

As the game neared its end, Wolves seemed destined for a 1-0 defeat. Things took a turn for the worse for Wolves when Odegaard beat Sa at his near post in the 90+5th minute, making it 2-0 to the Gunners.

Despite six minutes of added time, Wolves couldn’t salvage anything from the match.
